I am in love with the Caron Cakes self-striping yarn. It’s amazing! I just completed this shawl/wrap out of the Caron Cakes Red Velvet yarn. It’s beautiful and I didn’t change the color one time. It striped all by itself! For those of you who knit or crochet know why I am so excited about this wonderful yarn. Plus it’s soft and the colors are wonderful. The yarn was originally suppose to be available for only 3 months in Michaels Stores as a special Birthday Yarn for the Caron 100th Anniversary. But everyone LOVED it so it’s going to continue to be available. Yeah! I can’t wait to try another colorway.

This week at our regular weekly art classes we had several painters finish the pieces. And they all did great work! I love that at our weekly classes each painter is working on whatever they like….I get to see some wonderful art that way. We have Nancy with her Geraniums from a photo taken on a trip; Cecilia and her elephants; and Catherine with her daughter’s Boxer. Beautiful work ladies!

The recent Super Moon inspired some paintings this past week. Here is my miniature version of the moon peaking around the mountain. This one is 5″x7″ and is SOLD. We will have several miniature paintings available (as well as regular paintings and items from other teachers from The Studio) at the Holiday Artisan’s Market and Ugly Sweater Contest on Sunday, December 4th at 2- 5 pm. Be sure to come by.

The kids who come to The Studio to paint do an amazing job. Take a look at Caleb’s Crow and Sophia and Joey’s Wolves. Terrific! I am always asked if they really do these paintings themselves….and yes, they do! Since we only have an hour I often sketch their canvas so they can get right to the painting when they arrive. I think they do so well because they are not afraid to put paint on canvas. They’ll try everything and they pick up mixing colors very quickly. Great works are being created at The Studio. Why do you have your kids join us? Learn more about our art classes here.

So much wonderful art is being created each week at The Studio. And we love welcoming new painters to our kids and adult classes. This past week Curt and his wife Nancy joined us and came to a couple of classes and Open Studio. Curt completed this wonderful painting of a memory from a family trip to Iceland. The Sod House is nicely done Curt! Can’t wait to see Nancy’s finished painting of geraniums. Coming soon!

I’ve learned to knit and you know what that means…..more cool patterns! On the trip to Raleigh last week I was with two knitters and we decided to make this cool looking cowl so we pick up some nubby yarn. When I got home I got started. I had a pattern and everything….but I don’t know enough yet about knitting so on row 3 of the pattern I went rogue. Since I didn’t know what I was doing I just made it up…..and I like how it turned out. Then I made a crocheted version(pictured on the right). I think we’ll have a class in these in January. Get your hooks or needles ready!
