On Monday I visited with friends at the Battlefield Equestrian Center (Sander’s Ranch) and met loads of beautiful animals. Of course, I took many reference photos because the kids in my art classes LOVE to paint animals. So at this week’s classes we painted Finn. What a handsome guy! Here are the paintings that the kids did along with my demo piece and more photos of Finn and Lucky.

The last few weeks we have painted Easter themed paintings with bunnies and eggs. Bunnies in paint and Eggs in paper collage. Great work!
We painted Bunnies in our kid’s classes this week. Didn’t they turn out cute?!
Our kid’s classes produce some amazing art in just one hour. The Wednesday Kid’s class (for ages 8-12) painted these great Bees yesterday. Older kids (teenagers) join us in our adult class on Wednesdays. In that class they can paint whatever they choose and develop their own style a little more. Emily is new to the adult class and she is doing great. She has created this character that she drew and painted and she is even creating a story that goes along with her. Love it!
Great art being made at The Studio this week with our Thursday Kid’s class painting Bees and the Virginia International Academy students painting abstract flowers on watercolor paper. Beautiful!
The Studio is sponsoring a really fun event for the Humane Society of Warren County – PAWCASSO. When Lavenda Denney approached me last year about her idea for this project she knew she had me at art and rescue pets. She wanted to have the available animals at the shelter “paint” works of art to sell at a show at the arts council. I loved the idea and agreed to sponsor it right away but also suggested we take it a little further by offering private lessons for people who already have pets. So The Studio provided 10 sessions to people who would pre-purchase a large (18″ x 24″) painting with their pets. The pets had a private lesson with me and we created the large work of art. And it’s no surprise that those sold out. We have had so much fun with this project. And tonight is the reception from 6-9 pm at The Blue Ridge Arts Council at 405 E Main St. You don’t want to miss it! You have to see this art and these wonderful small works are for sale. Please come. Here are some of the painters at their session. LOL!
The kid’s classes this week started working on their Valentine’s for their sweethearts. We made Love Birds using paper. They look super! Great job everyone.
