Sandra's Jacket with Parisian theme

Close-up of the Eiffel tower

A few days ago I posted about a jacket that I made with my friend Sandra.  (You can read about it here.)

Mine had a dog on it – surprise, surprise!  But Sandra’s had a wonderful Parisian theme.  As promised, here is photos of hers.  I love her Eiffel Tower.  She felted it and them embellished it with thread and sparkles.  Fabulous.  She is an absolutely master seamstress and fiber artists.

And it’s so nice to have a sewing partner that likes the same things I do.  I am sure I will learn so much from Sandra.  We are working on a different type of jacket this week.  🙂

20141222_084545_resizedI just ran across this photo that I had been holding since before Christmas.  I didn’t want to post it until after because it was Kayla, my dog sitter’s, Christmas gift.

I love the “Dog themed” paper and especially the saying – “Be More Like a Dog”.  I think she liked it.

Rooster with Gesso

Rooster with Gesso

Yesterday Lynne and her very funny hubby, Michael, came by The Studio to pick up their Rooster-a commissioned piece she asked me to do.  (You might remember that Lynne is my friend who went to the Pioneers and Primitives Retreat at Sassafras Farm with me last September.  You can read more about that here.  Lynne is the first one on the left on the second row from the bottom in the photo.)

She purchased this large cut-out of a rooster and wanted it painted.  It was a little bit of a challenge as it had the grooves cut in it but in the end that made it really interesting.

I started by painting it with a coat of Gesso.  Then it was a matter of laying in a variety of colors to make him have some depth.  In the end, it turned out great.  I liked it and I think Lynne and Michael were happy with the result.

One thing I seldom do anymore is have the time to create a project that is just for me.  I am always creating but generally it is commissions for other people or painting lessons for classes or Paint Parties.  This past week I spent two glorious mornings working on something for me!

My friend, Sandra, who is an amazing seamstress and fabric artist, met me at The Studio for a couple of mornings of sewing and gabbing.  We had soooo much fun!  And we made super cute jackets with lovely embellishment.  I had found this McCall’s pattern not long ago and wanted to try it and when I mentioned it to Sandra she was all in.  It is made by using two sweatshirts!  But of course, the embellishment is what makes it so personal.  I am sure you are not surprised to see a dog on mine.  (I will try to get a photo of Sandra’s to post soon.  Her’s has a Paris theme.)

What fun it is to make something while chatting with someone who has similar interests.  The time just flew by.  And it was such a delight that we decided we need to do it more so we will hopefully do something else next week.  🙂

Bella-The Beautiful Dane

Bella LOOOOVES Truman

Bella Playing with her boyfriend Truman. She loved to stand over him!

I am asking for prayers of healing and comfort for my friend Carol Ann’s Great Dane Bella.  She is such a wonderful and gentle dog.  I have known her since her first day home with Carol Ann as a puppy just a few months old.  I had never been around Danes before and she was so fun to get to know.

She, of course, was big even as a puppy…she is a Great Dane after all.  And she LOVED to play with my basset hound Truman.  And they were the funniest pair.  She towered over him even as a puppy.  But they liked to play together and we loved watching it.

She is having some spine and back issues that is making it difficult for her to stand and walk.  I am so hoping that the treatment they are pursuing will help relieve her pain and discomfort.  She will be 10 in March – a long life for a Dane.

She is a beautiful girl and her “Aunt Treat” loves her very much.  Feel well Bella!  We love you so much.

20150121_171131_resizedWe had a super class of kids painting yesterday at The Studio.  We were tired of painting winter so we did a little garden shed painting with flowers.

And didn’t they ALL do a great job?!  These kids love to paint.
