The Virginia International Academy students painted this little still life this week. We have been working on a variety of subjects and styles since they started painting at The Studio. They are doing beautiful work!

A few weeks ago I shared a couple of posts with you about a commission that I have been working on of some small fruit paintings. You can see that here.
Here is a picture of all eight little 5″x7″ acrylic paintings completed. The client picked them up yesterday and she liked them! Yeah!

I am working on a commission of a series of small fruit paintings. Here are the first ones. I showed you the cherries earlier this week and the change in background color. (See it here.)
Now here they are almost finished along with the two apple paintings. Each is 5″x7″, acrylic on canvas. Now I need to work on the two pear and two grape paintings. Then I will put the final touches on all of them. Look for them soon!
Changing Cherries

Sometimes when I paint I have to make a change. I started these little cherry paintings with a darker background and then changed it to lighten up the top part of the background. Often adjustments need to be made after you start. The trick is being able to see what changes are needed…and that just comes with practice.
Still Daily Painting

I get questions all the time about “daily painting”. The most often asked is “Do you paint every day?” And the answer is “almost”. When I first joined the daily painting movement I did paint every day. And I completed a different small painting everyday….for a long time. I did this for about 4 years. Then I started working on larger paintings and while I painted every day I didn’t complete one each day.
But then I started offering other types of classes besides painting so it required me to create in other formats (like crocheting, multi-media, etc.) to prepare for classes so now my answer is that I create something everyday. It may not always be a painting like it was in the beginning but I do something creative each and every day.
Right now I have a couple of paintings that I am working on that still need a little work to be finished. Here are a couple. You will hopefully see the finished paintings soon.

A few months ago Lea’s husband bought a Gift Certificate for a Paint Party to give her for her birthday. What a fun gift because not only did Lea get to paint but she got to invite friends to join her.
And they all created these great small paintings! Good work everyone.
