We paint a LOT of mountain scenes around here. It’s a great Paint Party image as it’s pretty simple to do and everyone is successful at it. Here are a few recent ones.

Persistence

Last month while I was staining the deck out back I noticed a waterlogged bird nest in a tree limb that overhangs there. Then the heavy winds and days of rain came and I didn’t think anything else about it because I didn’t figure anything could be in it. This morning while out back with Lincoln I looked up and saw these two little faces looking out. They didn’t move at all but there little heads were just right above the nest. Guess mom is off finding them a worm. She must be terribly persistent to make that little home work.

Traditions at Capon Springs and Farm

Yesterday morning was my last day at Capon Springs for the Spring Art Retreat. We had a terrific time creating beautiful art. Many people got to try painting for the first time and some rediscovered an old love. It’s fun for me to watch people discover their artistic side. The other wonderful thing about Capon are the many traditions that they have. The place runs like clockwork. Meals served at a certain time; the same menu week after week. It’s like visiting an old friend. You know what to expect and it’s a very satisfying feeling. It’s also nice to see the staff taking time to help everyone build memories…especially the kids. They clamor to help….especially with the traditional things like raising the flag. These two kids will long remember assisting Jonathan raise the flag while we all looked on and sang the National Anthem. It’s my favorite part of each morning at Capon Springs and Farm.
Capon Artists

Yesterday was our last day of painting at Capon Springs for our Spring Art Retreat. And we didn’t waste a bit of time. A few painters finished up some lovely works of art and last night eight painters created beautiful geraniums at the Paint Party. What fun we have had helping people discover (or rediscover) their artistic sides. Once again, it’s been a delight to spend time in the magical place called Capon Springs. Make the time to come and see the magic for yourself. And if you can make it coincide with out Fall Artist Retreat from September 23-28, 2018, all the better. You won’t regret it!

We’ve been busy painting at the Capon Springs Retreat. Sunday night we had a paint party and yesterday we worked in acrylics….everyone painting their favorite subjects while I gave them a little help. My favs from the day’s sessions was Adelaide painting with her grandfather in the morning and then coming back in the afternoon to work on a paper painting with her mom. She loves ART!

I know I said it last fall when I was here for the first Artist’s Retreat but Capon Springs & Farm is a magical place.
It’s so off the beaten path that it’s hard to believe that it is just 35 miles from my Studio in Front Royal. And I am always amazed that more local people don’t even know about it. They are missing out on a real treat.
It’s beautiful here and the perfect place to hold an artist’s retreat…tons of inspiration. Can’t wait to help folks learn to paint today! Check Capon Springs out here. It is a great place for a few days away to unwind. And it’s not too late to come to the Retreat. We’ll be here until Friday.
