I hear people saying, “When this is over we’ll all be enjoying restaurants again, full shelves again, socializing again.” But unless it is over soon that will NOT be the case. The landscape of our community will not look the same as it did before this started. Many small businesses that you have enjoyed over the years won’t make it through months of closure and no sales. Think about that! The businesses that you go to every time your kid needs a donation for their school, for their ball teams or scouts…the businesses you go to for fundraisers for your organizations…those small businesses that give to you every time you ask are at risk now. They’ll be gone and all that will be left will be the large stores most of which have “policies” that don’t allow them to donate locally. What will we do then? Keep in mind our small businesses that need you now as you needed them when you asked for help. Make a real effort to help them. Buy a gift certificate. Pre-pay for classes to come. Buy art. Do what you can to keep small business alive. It’s the heartbeat of our community. Please don’t let it die in all the madness. At The Studio we are continuing with small classes so if you are bored come and paint with us. It is a good time to learn something new. Adult classes are every Wednesday from 10:30-Noon or 5:30 to 7 pm, or Thursday from 2 – 3:30. Kids meet on Wednesday from 4:15 to 5:15 pm. Contact Kelly and come join us for a class. If want to help The Studio stay alive you can click here and purchase art or gift certificates.

Clean & Reorganize

I made an agreement with myself to get The Studio straightened up on my final couple of days off. Since the space is small we really have to keep it organized in order to be able to find the things we need to work. And that is hard to do when there are so many people there creating cool things each week. But we can do it! So yesterday I took everything out of storage areas and decided what goes and what stays. What a mess. But it’s coming along. I don’t know about you but I am more creative when my studio space is organized.

Another Big Thank You!

Today I just want to say once again THANK YOU to everyone who has made The Studio a success. When I first asked a handful of women to meet with me so I could bounce some ideas off of them about what I had in mind I never envisioned that it would be all of this. I just thought a teaching studio would be a great idea.
What I didn’t realize, and I don’t think anyone did, is that it has turned into a gathering place for friends. So many new friendships have come from people meeting at various classes…or by getting to know different instructors. We have created together, traveled together, learned together…and so much more!
So, thank you again for making my vision so much bigger than any of us could have imagined!

We had an amazing birthday party for The Studio yesterday….2 years! We started this last year as we felt that it was a good opportunity to thank all the people who supported us throughout the year. We offered several projects for people to make and take with them.
We love seeing everyone busy creating! Thanks for another terrific year. Looking forward to number 3!
Happy 2nd Birthday to The Studio

Two years ago today, August 1st, we opened The Studio on Main Street in Front Royal. Happy Birthday! I was asked why we celebrate the opening as a birthday instead of anniversary. It is because for many of us The Studio is like a living thing! It’s been a “friend” to many as it has provided a place to gather and learn. And learn we have over the past two years.
We have had classes and workshops featuring painting (of course) and jewelry making, yard totems, wreathes, holiday gifts, tennis shoe painting, kids classes, cupcake and cookie decorating, felting, drawing, crocheting, knitting, quilting, Pet Portraits, coloring, flower arranging, collage, painted trays and buckets, Gelli printing, tee-shirt remakes, team building, trips to museums and so much more!!!
Last year on our “Birthday” we had a wonderful Birthday Party with lots of free projects for everyone to try. (See more here.) And we are planning to do it again. We invite you to help us celebrate on Monday, August 29th from 5-7 pm with another evening of great cake and fun projects for adults and kids. Please mark your calendar now and come celebrate The Studio with us!
We can’t wait to see what happens in our 3rd year!!!! We hope you will be a part of the fun and learning.
Paint Parties Everywhere!

Yesterday was a busy day with two paint parties – one at the Holiday Inn and one at The Studio. Rice Tire from Maryland is having a retreat/convention here and invited us to have a Paint Party for their attendees spouses. We had a large and enthusiastic group. Everyone did a great job and is going home with a wonderful souvenir of their time in the Shenandoah Valley.
The afternoon saw us painting at our 1st Saturday Paint Party where we painted the third in our Four Seasons series – the Spring Tree. They looked GREAT!
Lots of beautiful art was made yesterday!

We had a great time painting more great pet portraits at The Studio yesterday. It is so much fun watching people who have never painted bring their pet to life on canvas! Why not join us to paint your pet’s portrait? Check out the calendar here for the next class.

Abstract painting comes in so many shapes, sizes, colors, and designs. Most people either love it or hate it.
And often people look at an abstract work and thinks “anyone can do that”. The fact is it is not nearly as easy as it looks.
Tonight there is an abstract class at The Studio that will give some tips on how to create a successful abstract work of art. Come join us.
