Yesterday we painted two more farm animals in our series. (See the first two here.) The Goose and Sheep turned out great! These will make a beautiful grouping….and next month we will add two more. On November 17th at 2 pm we will paint a Cow and a Pig. Click here for more info and to register. Go ahead and register even if you haven’t done the first sessions as we will have a make-up session for those who missed out and want to add more to their collection.

Sophia painted the cutest little pig at her lesson this week. Great job.

I get questions all the time about “daily painting”. The most often asked is “Do you paint every day?” And the answer is “almost”. When I first joined the daily painting movement I did paint every day. And I completed a different small painting everyday….for a long time. I did this for about 4 years. Then I started working on larger paintings and while I painted every day I didn’t complete one each day.
But then I started offering other types of classes besides painting so it required me to create in other formats (like crocheting, multi-media, etc.) to prepare for classes so now my answer is that I create something everyday. It may not always be a painting like it was in the beginning but I do something creative each and every day.
Right now I have a couple of paintings that I am working on that still need a little work to be finished. Here are a couple. You will hopefully see the finished paintings soon.

Yesterday Lynne and her very funny hubby, Michael, came by The Studio to pick up their Rooster-a commissioned piece she asked me to do. (You might remember that Lynne is my friend who went to the Pioneers and Primitives Retreat at Sassafras Farm with me last September. You can read more about that here. Lynne is the first one on the left on the second row from the bottom in the photo.)
She purchased this large cut-out of a rooster and wanted it painted. It was a little bit of a challenge as it had the grooves cut in it but in the end that made it really interesting.
I started by painting it with a coat of Gesso. Then it was a matter of laying in a variety of colors to make him have some depth. In the end, it turned out great. I liked it and I think Lynne and Michael were happy with the result.

One thing I love about going different places are the reference photos I take so that I have loads of material to choose from when I paint. Of course, at Sassafras Farm this weekend there was lots and lots to photograph. Here are some shots from the weekend.
