As a daily painter and teacher Kelly has painted almost every day since 2008. She says that joining the daily painting movement helped her to maintain artistic discipline, foster creativity, improved her skills and has brought her great joy.
Very much taken with subjects of everyday life from landscapes to fruit and vegetables to animals, she works in watercolor, oil, and acrylic. Working in multiple mediums keeps her from being bored and gives her flexibility in subject matter. Often painting from photos in the studio, Kelly still loves to paint in en Plein-air (outdoors) whenever possible.
Kelly is a native of Georgia where she received a BS in Secondary Education from Georgia Southern College. She has been a full-time artist since 2007. Prior to that she worked in the non-profit world with Chambers of Commerce in Kentucky and Virginia.
Tapping into her teaching experience, Kelly teaches art to children and adults at The Studio on Main Street in Front Royal. She opened The Studio as a place for people to come to tap into their creativity without any pressure. Classes are offered in art, crochet, knitting, collage, beading, cupcake decorating, sewing, quilting, embroidery and more.
Kelly was selected as the “Best Local Artist” by the Northern Virginia Daily every year since 2013. A firm believer in public/community service she is very active in many organizations in the community. She served on the Board of the Pennyroyal Arts Council, Hopkinsville, KY, and is past President of the Blue Ridge Arts Council Board in Front Royal, VA. Kelly is very active dog rescue groups around the country often providing them with art for fund-raising.
She lives and paints with Lincoln (wire-haired dachshund-terrier mix) , a rescue dog, that loves to work at The Studio.
