New Year-page0001I just read an article about the top New Year’s Resolutions and how most are broken.  😦

The first is to lose weight or get fit.  The second is to quit smoking.  But the third is to  learn something new.  It’s an exciting resolution…there are so many things to learn.

Well, we can help you with this one so that it is not broken!  Come to The Studio-A Place for Learning and pick up a new skill or hobby.  Learn to paint, sew, crochet, decorate cookies, become better with social media, quilt, make jewelry, and much, much more.  You can see the current schedule by going to The Studio’s website here.

Consider learning something new this year.  It’s not too late to make that resolution….and KEEP IT!

The kids painted some beautiful “Birch Trees at Night” in their class yesterday.  Super work!  They look great.

And I had a teaching assistant at all my classes yesterday.  Daisy is a one-year-old Westie who is a neighbor’s pup.  They had to go out-of-town on an emergency last Sunday night and so Daisy came to stay with us.  She is an adorable, sweet little girl…but make no mistake she is ALL terrier…full of life and mischief!  We are enjoying her.

Janet modeling Infinity Scarf

I spent some time working on another Infinity Scarf.  We have a Beginning Crochet class coming up this Sunday at The Studio and I made one sample scarf but decided to do another and make it a little smaller so the students can see the difference.

Lincoln was nice enough to model this one for me since Janet wasn’t here to model like she did the first one.  🙂

Be sure to check out the calendar for classes coming up at The Studio-A Place for Learning.

January 2015 1st Saturday Paint Party

January 2015 1st Saturday Paint Party

The 1st Saturday Paint Party yesterday was painting fruit in miniature.  And boy, did everyone do a great job!  These turned out so good.  We worked in acrylic on 6″x6″ stretched canvas.

Each month on the 1st Saturday we have a Paint Party where we try something different each time.  The great part is that all supplies are included so all you need to do is make a reservation and show up.  Then after a couple of hours you will go home with a wonderful completed painting!  Why don’t you join us next time – February 7th at 3 pm?

20141110_061235Skating Santa embroidered pillow.   I am so glad that I rediscovered embroidery this year thanks to my friend and a wonderful teacher Sandra Charles.  When we offered the “Learn to Embroidery” class at The Studio I decided to take it.  I hadn’t done embroidery since I was a teenager.  And I LOVE it!

If you still have someone on your Christmas list that you need to buy for consider a Gift Certificate to The Studio.  One can be emailed to you so that you can have it in time for Christmas gift opening.  Just email kwalker@doubledogdesigns.com with your Gift Certificate request.  We know there is someone on your list that would love to discover their creative side in 2015!

“Lilly and Bella”

We had a fun Pet Portrait Paint Party yesterday with wonderful portraits created.  I can share a few with you today but others will have to wait until after Christmas as they are going to be wonderful presents for friends and family.

Everyone did fabulous work.  Martin was painted twice by this sweet girl and her mom.  They did great paintings.  And Rebecca and Vivian did beautiful paintings of their sweet kitties.

Good work everyone!

Rebecca and Sandra

Last night I took a class at The Studio (instead of teaching one!) and we made a Sock Monkey.

He is so cute.  Sandra Charles taught us and boy is she good.

Thanks Sandra for being so patient and making it so much fun!  I can’t wait to try it again…this time it will be a “Sock Puppy”!

2014-12-05 05 41 58_resizedLast night at Art Class I had a delightful group of young people come to paint with me for the first time.  It was a brother and sister and cousin.  Their grandmother “made” them do it.  LOL  They all did a wonderful job even though they told me they had not painted this way before.

And in the end they were glad that she MADE them do it.  I hope I get the chance to work with them again soon.  Great job guys.  Keep Painting!

20141118_055602 2014-11-18 22 03 45  Initials are very popular now.  So the last two days I worked up these canvas with initials.  The K has torn paper over a 12×12 canvas.  The N has a sheet of paper untorn over a 6×6 canvas.  They are both fun to do.  We will be having a class soon at The Studio for anyone who wants to give it a try.  (Watch for the date coming soon.)  These would make really nice Christmas gifts!   UPDATE:  We now have dates for the class to make these.  Join us on Friday, Dec 5th at 11 am  or Tuesday Dec 9th at 6:30 pm.  Contact kwalker@doubledogdesigns.com to register.
