Plans for 2016

wp-1451561806340.jpgI am busy trying to plan what we will be doing at The Studio this year including laying out the schedule for Art Camp for Kids this summer.  I would love some input.  Please take a minute to respond to this poll and let me know what you think.  Thanks!

At the end of each year WordPress provides a review of statistics.  Here is the 2015 one.  For comparison here is the review from 2014.

Here’s an excerpt:

Madison Square Garden can seat 20,000 people for a concert. This blog was viewed about 64,000 times in 2015. If it were a concert at Madison Square Garden, it would take about 3 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Ice and Elevate

wp-1451393503713.jpgThe reason my posts have been a little sporadic this past week is that a week ago I had knee surgery.  And because I am “recovering”  I have not been able to create the way I normally do.  I am hoping to be back at The Studio later this week to do a little catching up.  It’s hard to sit still….at least for me!

Famous Painters

3cb756b12d142775ecce7c99c9316078 tLast year we started having a Paint Party once a month where we recreate a “Famous Painting” or  paint in the style of a famous artist.

So far we have recreated a Van Gogh, a Cassatt, an O’Keeffe and a Pissarro.  And they all look GREAT!  This particular party is a little more involved than some of the other Paint Parties but anyone can do it.  We use the same format, going step-by-step until each painter has a beautiful painting.

We are starting the year with a Matisse inspired painting on Tuesday, January 26th at 6 pm.  Why not join us and see how it feels to paint like the famous ones?  Click here to register.

20151224_201304Allen has 4 kitties at his warehouse that help him “work”.  I think they mainly keep the mouse population at bay and make him smile a lot.  So they all got crocheted “Cat Bowls” for Christmas.

You can see the free crochet pattern here if you want to give it a try.  Kitties love them.

Easiest & Best Fudge Ever

20151223_070138-1For over 30 years I have used this recipe for fudge.  It is the easiest and the best.  I make it with and without nuts.  It’s great both ways.  Give it a try.

Easy Creme Fudge

3 cups sugar

3/4 cups margarine

2/3 cups evaporated milk

1 – 12 ounce package of chocolate chips (semi-sweet, milk chocolate or dark)

1 – 7 ounce jar marshmallow creme

1 teaspoon vanilla flavoring

1 cup chopped pecans

Combine sugar, margarine and milk in heavy 2 1/2 quart saucepan.  Bring to full rolling boil stirring constantly. Continue boiling for 5 minutes over medium heat or until candy thermometer reaches 234 degrees, stirring constantly to prevent scorching.  Remove from heat and stir in chocolate chips until melted.  Add vanilla and marshmallow creme. Stir until smooth and blended.  Stir in nuts.  Pour into a lightly greased 13″x9″ pan.  Cool at room temperature.  Cut into small squares.  Makes about 3 pounds.   Enjoy!

CREATE!

3cb756b12d142775ecce7c99c9316078

Found on dazeddigital.com

This has been an amazing year at The Studio.  While I have done less commission paintings I have done more paintings than ever by teaching.  We have had a huge number of Paint Parties.  These are the ones where people come and follow along step by step until they create a work of art.  Many of the people who attend have never picked up a brush!

I love helping people see that the only magic to painting is the desire to do it!

And if you like your art then it’s good art.  You can’t let others determine what is good for you.  Enjoy what you do.
