These two cute young artists painted a version of Signal Knob from a photo I took from the EDA office on Kendrick Lane recently. Nice work girls! The Studio currently offers class for kids every Wednesday from 4:15-5:15. Don’t you have a young artist you want to encourage?

Crocheting on a Rainy Day

Yesterday was my day off. And what did I do? I spent the day crocheting…working on stitches and patterns that we can use for classes at The Studio. Yes, that is working and not a day off….but it’s fun work. 🙂 I think we have some new things that people might like to learn to do so they can get ready for fall and winter. Keep an eye out for upcoming Crochet Classes.

We all love sunflowers. They are bright and happy flowers. Why not find a way to enjoy this lovely flower year round? Well, we did! Take a look at this Sunflower Rag Quilt. With a little experimentation we were able to work this one out. Is this a class you’d be interested in taking?

Painting the House!

Yesterday we had our inaugural session of “Paint Your House” Paint Party. We had so much fun painting and some reminiscing about the homes we grew up in. Everyone did fantastic work. These are a little more detailed, as you can imagine, than some of the images we do at Paint Parties but they are very special. Julie and Susan finished theirs and were very pleased.
Kim and Lauren plan to work on them again this week at art class and Open Studio as they didn’t want to rush. Beautiful! Thanks ladies for a fun session and thanks Lauren for the great idea! We will be planning another one in October so watch for the date if you missed this one.
Crochet Like Knit

This is a crochet stitch that I hadn’t tried before and I am so glad I finally found it. It’s crochet but it looks very much like knit. I love it. I worked up this little blanket with Caron Cakes self-striping yarn….love it too. So easy to use and makes a wonderful wide stripe. Working on a few more new stitches that we may be able to use for a scarf class this fall at The Studio. Stay tuned!

Two of my weekly art students completed paintings yesterday. Ethan comes to the Kids class from 4:15-5:15 and he did a palette knife painting from a live set up of flowers. That’s a challenge and he did a great job with it. Lauren attends Wednesday evening class at 5:30 pm. She did this lovely little sunflower to hang in her daughter’s room. Beautiful….nice work! If you would like to learn to paint or improved your painting skills join us for art class. Here’s more information here.

We had a small but enthusiastic group who bravely painted the Bonnard Poppies last night at The Studio. Nice work everyone! It wasn’t as hard as we thought it would be. And they are beautiful. The next Famous Painter Party will be Tuesday, September 26th at 6 pm. Maybe a Monet?
Team Building at Gesher

We spent yesterday afternoon working with the enthusiastic faculty and staff of Gesher Jewish Day School in Fairfax painting a team building “mural” that will hang in their school. The group was divided into nine teams that painted canvases using written directions and communication with the other teams.
These canvases will be put together to make one large mural painting that will be on display. And each participant will get a print of the completed work to keep. Their landscape painting of a bridge (Gesher means Bridge) turned out great! Nice work everyone. You worked well together. Thanks to Head of School, Dan Finkel, for inviting us to work with you all. We know you’ll have a terrific school year.
NOTE: If you have a group interested in a team building event check out more information here.
