2014-09-10 05 34 1520140909_192713Last night I was invited to speak to a group at The Village at Orchard Ridge.  It’s a beautiful retirement community in Winchester.  I have been teaching art there every other week for a few months and just love the people.

The demonstration was scheduled to help some of the residents see just how easy it can be to start painting.  It was a nice evening with a good turn out and lots of great questions.  I am a firm believer that anyone who wants to learn to  paint can!  The only thing needed is the desire.  Classes are available in Front Royal on Wednesday and Thursday at The Studio.  Check out the calendar here and come join in the fun.

2014-09-03 21 03 56I had some time this week to work on a few daily paintings.  My schedule has been hectic and while I paint each day I haven’t had time to just do single daily paintings.  Finally this week I had a little time for it.  WooHoo!

Twin Cherries, acrylic on canvas, 5″x7″, available for $95.

20140819_083027 I recently received a commission to paint a scene from Harrisonburg with the mountains in the background.   It is a graduation gift.  It took a little longer than normal because it’s a larger painting, 18″x24″ acrylic on canvas.

Art Campers Take a Break

My youngest group of Art Campers, ages 5-7, painted a wonderful copy of “Van Gogh’s Sprig of Almond” and what an amazing job they did!

Good work everyone.  And many thanks to my student Logan who came in to work as my assistant with this young group.  She was terrific at everything from mixing paint to opening water bottles at break!  🙂

I spent most of yesterday painting a mural at Main Street Travel.  (You can check out their Facebook page here.)

I enjoy mural painting.  It’s fun to see the client’s vision come to life.  And Ginny is a wonderful person for which to work.  She and I had fun deciding what and where to put it.  You can see from the photos my step by step work yesterday.

I got the background in:  sky, ocean and sand.  Today I hope to get the rest done:  palm trees and Adirondack chairs.
