After a great deal of planning, over 20 hours of painting, and I don’t know how much paint, Dianne and I completed the mural at her home. Well, almost complete. There are a few little details that I want to add….and Dianne wants us to put a little something in the field on the Summer panel…and I want to change the summer panel a bit so I’ll share it again when we finally do finish it. We’ll get to it as soon as Thanksgiving is over. We wanted to get it as far a possible so that Dianne could share it with her family tomorrow when they come to her home for Thanksgiving dinner. It was a BIG project. The wall is 26 feet long and the height is 8 feet. Did we mention it was a big project???!!!!

Dianne and I worked for 6 hours on the mural this weekend. We are getting very close now. She started painting frames around them while Lincoln supervised my touch-up and finals on the last panel. We still have a few more hours of detail work but it’s almost there.

The mural continues…..we have 3 panels almost done and the last one about halfway. Dianne is hoping for it to be done before Thanksgiving but between her schedule and mine it probably won’t be done quite that soon but certainly before Christmas. Here she is touching up the snow on our winter panel. We’ll post another update after our next session.

Dianne and I worked on her mural a few more hours today. You’ll remember the right section….Fall…from a week or so ago. Today we added the Winter scene. It is about 70% finished. We need to add more snow to the trees and a few more limbs. And we plan to add a cardinal in the tree. But because of travel plans we won’t be able to do more for a few weeks so we’ll show you more as we get it done. At this rate we may have it done for her Thanksgiving dinner.

Dianne and I worked on the mural again on Sunday for 3 more hours. We got the fall panel about 90% complete….and got a start on the Winter sky. Dianne’s traveliing some the next few days so we won’t get to work on it again until she returns. I think it’s moving along faster than Dianne thought it would even though it’s a huge project. More to come.

We saw the Andy Griffith Mural on Moore Avenue in downtown Mount Airy when we visited earlier this week. It is created with spray paint! The mural displays four aspects of Andy’s life and career against the backdrop of Pilot Mountain. The mural, done entirely with spray paint by Greensboro artist Jeks, was completed in May 2022, in time for what would have been Andy’s 96th birthday. Our tour guide told us about watching the artist working with spray cans of paint to do it. That is pretty amazing for spray cans!

wp-1582889248233.jpgRemember back in December I worked with a group of young girls at E Wilson Morrison Elementary School called Club Hope. (Click here to see that.)  The group works on encouraging self-esteem and communication. We did a Team Building project, painting several canvases that were joined to make a mural.  We recently delivered the mural to hang at their school.  It looks great!!!   If you are interested in a Team Building event for your school, your business or even your family event, click here.

Mural for Baby Room

Mural for Odalys 3Saturday morning I spent a delightful time at a local home painting a mural in the new baby’s room.  The mom had found a design she wanted to done and she wanted it to be a family affair.

Mural for Odalys 1So when I got there I drew it on the wall and started it and everyone in the family painted.  That included mom and dad and baby’s older brother who is also one of my art students.  We even got the family dog into the act by letting her paint a paw print in the center of one of the flowers.  It turned out great and I think everyone enjoyed it.

If you have a fun painting project that you would like to do with the family but aren’t sure where to start just get in touch at kwalker@doubledogdesigns.com and let me help.

Finished Mural

Two weeks ago I posted about a mural that I was beginning to paint at Main Street Travel in Front Royal.  (See that here.)

Well now the mural is finished.  And here is the final look along with a recap of the project.

We decided to go with a brick window since the front window of her store is outlined in brick.  (See photo.)

The client is happy so that makes me happy!

Main St Travel 8 ChairsThe Main Street Travel mural got chairs yesterday.  Now that everything is laid in I can go back and start with some details.  Still several more hours to get done but it’s coming along.  Just hoping to get it all done before they put carpet on the floor so I don’t have to be “extra” careful.  🙂
