I did another version of the barn as a sample for a Paint Party today. The host wanted hydrangeas included.

Every other Friday I teach art at The Village at Orchard Ridge in Winchester. This week one of my students called to ask if she could bring her granddaughter who was visiting her to art class. Of course!
And this little 4-year-old turned out to be a great little student. She had so much fun painting the two little canvases I brought for her. And didn’t she do a wonderful job. She was so excited to show her parents.

More from the Long Green Paint-Out

I had a delightful day of painting at Long Green yesterday. (See here the set-up for my first painting there.) Here is the progress I made. It was a bright sunny day so the shadows kept moving…and fast! But I got the first painting, the barn to a point of about 85% finished.
Now I will tinker on it in the studio until it’s done. The Long Green Paint Out is for an upcoming fundraiser for Blue Ridge Hospice. They are going to have a “Decorator’s Showcase” there in September that will be open to the public. More info to come as I get it. And our paintings will be on display and for sale to benefit Hospice.
A Great Old Barn

I passed this really neat looking barn on the way to Sassafras Farm a few weeks ago when I was in West Virginia. I love the way it looks. So we painted it last week in adult art class. If you have ever thought about painting you should come join us on Wednesdays or Thursdays for class. Click here for more information.
Day 3 and 4 of Art Camp

Day 3 of Post-Impressionism Art Camp had us painting a copy of one of Cezanne’s Still Life with Apples. The young artists did a fabulous job with color mixing.
Then we did a quick miniature painting of a barn and even framed it.
Day 4 we spent almost the entire morning working on a copy of Matisse’s Red Fish. I love Matisse and while it was the hardest painting we have done in camp so far, the young artists did GREAT! For the final day of camp we are doing our “masterpiece”, an extra-large painting of Van Gogh’s Starry Night. I’ll share it with you in the next post. Stay tuned!
This energetic group of young artists are doing splendid work!

Sugar and Beulah Petunia

All the while we are painting the huge mural with all the farm animals in the middle of the room for Suzanne McMinn we are also working on a few little side paintings.
This is Sugar, one of the 10 or so cats that live at the farm. She is just too cute.
And this is Beulah Petunia, the milk cow. She is painted on the wall leading out to where her pen is and where she gets milked. If you could see through the window on the door you would see her out there.
And if you ever watched Suzanne milk “BP” you would understand the reasoning for this composition. She puts a bucket of corn and grain in front of her and she continuously eats while Suzanne milks her. The chickens come from all around because BP drops some of the corn and they want it too!
Linda painted this nice vignette above the stove. It really adds so much to the kitchen area. Great job Linda!
And here are Linda and I with our host, Suzanne.
I think Suzanne really loved the final result, especially her beloved BP!
