Art Camp started this week with three enthusiastic painters, Isaac, Mia and Peyton.  The first thing we painted was the color wheel while we learned about color mixing.

Next we painted a mountain landscape scene to learn more about paints, brushes, canvas, and palettes.

This week our emphasis for study is Post-Impressionism so we paid homage to Boudin with a copy of his “Two Dogs in the Street”.

And Gauguin’s “The Siesta”.

Can you believe we did all of us this in just two days?

Stay tuned to see what other lovely paintings these young artist make before the end of the week.

Yesterday I spend a delightful afternoon at Prince Michel Winery north of Madison, Virginia participating in a Quick Draw to benefit SAFE, Services to Abused Families, Inc.  About 20 artists came together to either demonstrate their medium or compete in the Quick Draw competition.

Luckily, the event was held inside since the weather was so unbearably hot.

We had just one hour to paint a work of art that we donated to the live auction that was held to benefit SAFE.  The audience was particularly kind to me and I was designated “Crowd Favorite” both by the numbers observing and my painting earning the highest auction bid.

I had a terrific time painting and meeting some new artists from the Madison area.  And many thanks to my friend and fellow painter Linda Kusior who came to support me and for taking most of the photos here.

Several months ago some friends who do wonderful work with German Shepherd Rescue stopped by Delilah’s with their latest rescue.  She doesn’t look at all like a German Shepherd!

This little Gem is the cutest thing.  She was bashful on her first visit but let me snap this photo.  I couldn’t resist painting it.

She came back to visit a few weeks ago and has grown a little and is more outgoing and a little less skittish.  And she is definitely a daddy loving girl.  Her dad has salt and pepper hair and a beard so they even look a little alike.

A Little Gem, acrylic on canvas, 16″x12″, available at Delilah’s or by contacting kwalker@kellywalkerstudios.com .

This is Jacob.  He is one of my private students.  He’s 6.

A few weeks ago I asked him what he wanted to paint next and he said Buffy.  Buffy is his old golden retriever.  Buffy is almost twice as old as Jacob and  you can tell he loves her.

So we painted Buffy.  It took two lessons and he did a terrific job.  I love helping young artists paint their pets.
