Roses by the Door is an oil on canvas measuring 12″x12″ and is available for $195 framed.  This is the second in the House and Garden series of  paintings.  (Click here to see the first one.)

Thanks to everyone who sent good wishes for Lincoln.  He is a little sport, that’s for sure.  To answer a few questions that came in about him:

I think (and my vet agrees) that he is a Dachshund/Airedale Terrier mix.  Not sure how that happened but it must have involved a ladder.

And we think he is about 1 year to a year and a half old so we have given him Lincoln’s birthday in February.  Appropriate for him!

And he must be a painter because when I got home from art class last night he had turned over a trash can and dug out a piece of palette paper that I had thrown out that had oil paint on it and he painted a rug and the hardwood floor.  Maybe I should have named him Picasso!

But how can you get mad at that face…

Meet Lincoln.  He is the newest addition to the Walker household.  Jed was lonely all by himself so we started looking a few weeks ago for a new baby to bring home.  After searching for a little girl, it turns out that Jed like boys better.  🙂

Lincoln (Abraham Lincoln Walker) formerly known as Griffon at our shelter, was a stray picked up by animal control.  He was at our shelter, the Humane Society of Warren County, for about a month before we couldn’t resist and brought him home on Sunday.  He and Jed have been playing very hard since then.  It’s so nice that they play well together.

Tug  of War is a really fun game.  And now I don’t have to always be the one playing with Jed.  Yeah!

Lincoln went to the vet on Tuesday for neutering.  I know people have mixed feeling about this but I think it is the responsible thing to do unless you have show dogs.  He seems none the worse for it.  The problem is keeping him from playing too much until he is healed.

We think he is about 1-2 years old so we split the difference and are saying he’s one and a half.  And boy he is still a puppy!  Hopefully that will calm down soon.  Wish us luck.

As I mentioned last week, I was invited to paint in Strasburg Friday at their first Art Walk.  It happened to coincide with their annual Fireman’s Carnival Parade so there were loads of people downtown to watch the parade and they watched me paint.

You can see the progression of the work here.  Also, I had help from a few young people in selecting which picture they wanted me to paint.

And they even helped me put the finishing flowers in the painting.  I think they enjoyed it almost as much as the parade!

And the painting was about 90% finished by the time I left.  Finishing touches will go on this week and then I’ll post again.

Twins!

There are the cutest twins in our neighborhood.  Jed and I see them daily when we take our early morning walk.  A few days ago I caught this shot of them with their mom in front of my neighbor, Clara’s house.  She waters early and they like the morning drink.

They, along with about a dozen other deer, we see on a regular basis in the yard.  It’s sad that they don’t have a better place to live.  I’m worried that the little ones will get hit by a car driving by.  Hopefully people will be on the lookout for them.

This is my favorite easel for plein-air painting, painting outdoors.

I love it because it sets up so easily and gives a large space for the palette.

I do sometimes use this easel when painting demonstrations indoors, again because of the ease of set-up and small amount of floor space that it takes.

I will be doing a demo in Strasburg at Buggy B’s on King Street from 5:30-7:30 Friday.  I will provide more info later in the week.

House and Garden I is an oil on canvas measuring 12″x12″ and is available for $195 framed.  This is the first in a series of paintings that we are doing in our Thursday evening painting class at the Blue Ridge Arts Council.  Come join us.

I got a Kindle for my birthday and I absolutely love it which surprises me since I have always been a traditionalist about books and newspapers.  I like the feel of them in my  hands.  But I really do love the Kindle.  And I just finished reading my first book on it which is the reason I am blogging today.  You MUST read this book, Sh*t My Dad Says.  It’s by Justin Halpern and I think it might be the funniest book I have ever read.  It’s not for kids or the faint of heart if you can’t take a little language.  But it’s worth a read.  His dad is a modern-day philosopher and has great lessons in his crazy sayings.  Take a look.

South Beach Chairs is an oil on canvas panel measuring 9″x12″  and is available for $165.  This is one of the paintings that I did on location last week at Hilton Head and I just wrapped it up yesterday.

And today we wish Happy Birthday to Jed!  He’s 3 years old.  Good boy!
