Marsh from the BridgeI am heading across the bridge this morning to go to Beaufort to have brunch with a friend.  I took photo a few days ago when I rode across on the bicycle.  I love driving the back roads to see different things so of course, I will have camera in hand.  This view is certainly one I will be painting soon.

Horses at HHI 1 Horses at HHI 2We enjoyed a relaxing day yesterday biking around and stopping to see some amazing art. These horse sculptures just stand out in an open space by the marsh. I couldn’t find anything nearby who said who created them so I Googled it when I got back to the house.  Here is what I found:

“These unique horse sculptures are a part of Hilton Head Island’s growing art collection.  May 1st they were placed on a parcel of town-owned property beside William Hilton Head Parkway near mid-island.  The sculptures are by Jonathan Bowling of Greenville, NC and are made from repurposed steel. Previously they were on display at the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn on the north end of the island.”

I have been wanting to learn to weld so this makes me want to even more!

Spring is in the air?

The azaleas are confused about the time of the year here in Hilton Head.  They must think it’s April already because the weather sure seems that way.  A nice mid-60’s yesterday allowed me to bike around and take some photos.

I love riding the bike around and taking reference photos for paintings.  Not that I don’t already have tons of them, but you never know what you might get that you just have to put on canvas.

I am going to have to get my photo editing program loaded on this computer though so I can make these a little easier to see.  It was late in the afternoon with not much light….but still some really nice sights!

Hilton Head Island, South Beach II is an oil on canvas panel measuring 9″x12″ and is available for $165.

This was a fun painting because I spent most of the time watching a grandfather and his grandchildren playing in the water.  The kids were young and really giving Grandpa a workout.  I’ll bet he will be glad when their  vacation ends.  🙂

Just returned from Hilton Head where I got to paint on South Beach a few days.  I like to paint there because there is always a good breeze blowing and it’s not overly crowded.  I’ll post the results over the next few days.

This one is South Beach I, Hilton Head Island.  It is an oil on canvas panel measuring 9″x12″ and is available for $175 by contacting me at kwalker@doubledogdesigns.com .

South Beach ViewI spent a little time painting yesterday morning at the bend going to South Beach yesterday…  South Beach at Hilton Head Island, SC.  It was early but there was still quite a few people out walking and I talked to some very nice people from Ohio and Pennsylvania as well as locals.  People are always curious when they see you painting.  Some will come over and ask questions. This is the scene I painted.  The three little lines you see (one at the top and two at the bottom) are the metal prongs that hold the painting on the french easel.  I took this photo while still wet on the easel so I could get it posted right away.  SouthBeach Ref Photo(This painting is SOLD.)

This is the reference photo that I took just in case I couldn’t finish.  You never know what the weather might do so it’s good to get the reference in case you have to complete the painting in the studio.  But yesterday was perfect for painting.   A nice breeze was blowing, the sun was hot but not unbearable, and I got to paint on location.  Does it get any better than that???!!!
