Back to Jack

Spent the last couple of days gathering up supplies to go to see my friend in West Virginia who is having me do some paintings on her new studio walls.  She is Jack’s mom.  This is Jack.  He is part of the “Farm Animal” series that I painted a few years ago.  I’m sure I will get loads more material to paint while there.

Got an old chair and made it new.

It’s time to sign up for Art Camp 2012.  The first one starts on June 25th!  That’s just a couple of weeks away!

Last year we had great fun painting like many famous painters.  We study color mixing, composition and different styles of painting.

Learn more about the schedule with the topic of emphasis here.

If you know a young person, ages 7-13, that might like to attend please let them know about camp.  You can learn more details here.  Or email me at kwalker@kellywalkerstudios.com for more information.

The Regatta

While in Newport recently I ran across this little Regatta on Saturday.  Got some nice shots of sailboats to paint.  As a daily painter I am always gathering photos for my reference file.

Shenandoah Fishermen, oil on canvas panel, 11″x14″.  This is a painting that I started while painting at the boat landing on Luray Avenue in Front Royal a few weeks ago.  I had almost finished laying in the composition when these fisherman rode up and stopped.  They added the perfect finishing touch to this painting.

The Wednesday Young Artists got their shot at painting Oreo Cows last night.  Nice job!  See more about the Oreo cow paintings here.

Lincoln and Dixie, acrylic on canvas, 14″x18″.  Dixie is a dog in our neighborhood that loves to come visit us…usually without her parents permission.  She is quite the escape artist.  We welcome her visits as Lincoln loves her.  You can read a little more about Dixie here.

The first fence post in the Warren County Dog Park went up last week.  And the building continues.  Woo Hoo!

It shouldn’t take long to get it finished now that we have begun so we can expect the park to open this summer.  Yeah!  Woof!

Oreo Cows

While in Newport  recently I had an opportunity to drive around taking reference photos.  This one of the Oreo cow is one of my favorites.  They are actually called Belted Galloways but I think they look like Oreos.  Dorothy and I painted them last week in class.  You can read more about them here.

Last night at art class I had the most delightful treat.  Olivia, my little 5-year-old private student that you have seen before on my blog, and her grandfather from Florida came to paint together while he was visiting.  It was so much fun!!!

Olivia helped G-Pa with his painting because she is such a pro.  Can you think of anything cuter than this photo!  Good job Olivia and you too, G-Pa!
