Gretchen Painting of Father-in-Law Shooting Pool

Gretchen Painting of Father-in-Law Shooting Pool

Gretchen attends the Wednesday morning art class at The Studio where she does excellent work painting some beautiful scenes.  Recently she has been working on this painting of her father-in-law shooting pool.  He really enjoys playing and this painting captures that so well.  Great work Gretchen.  Keep up the good work.

Classes are held at The Studio on Wednesday and Thursday for adults and children.  Check out more info here.

It’s World Series time.  The game last night was great.  Watching it made me think of the paintings I did for the Kickstarter project a few years ago – Painted Diamonds.  I painted all 30 Major League Ballparks in 30 weeks.  You can see and read more about that here.

Many of the paintings were sold during the project but Citi Field (Mets) and Kauffman Stadium (Royals) are still available.  Fans interested in a unique piece of baseballl art contact kwalker@kellywalkerstudios for purchase information.

250px-In_the_Car300px-Roy_Lichtenstein_WhaamAmerican artist Roy Lichtenstein was born in New York City on October 27, 1923, and grew up on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. In the 1960s, Lichtenstein became a leading figure of the new Pop Art movement. Inspired by advertisements and comic strips, Lichtenstein’s bright, graphic works parodied American popular culture and the art world itself. He died in New York City on September 29, 1997.  Read more about him here.

These exercises have been for study of the basics.  More to come.

Painting of "Boo Looking Beyond"

Painting of “Boo Looking Beyond”

Today we are remembering Sweet Boo.  She was born on this day in 1990 and was a White German Shepherd that had been abandoned.  We adopted her from our shelter years ago. We didn’t get her until she was 12 years old!  I know, right?  That’s old for a big dog.  We brought her home in hopes of giving her nice couple of years.  Instead, she gave us a nice couple of years.

She was such a sweet girl. We are so grateful to have had time with her.  As a tribute to Boo I would encourage anyone thinking of adopting a pet to consider a senior.  Older pets need good homes and they are often the best pet to bring into a busy household because they don’t need housebreaking and training.  They just need love and companionship….and they give all of that and more back to you.  Think about it.

So today we miss and celebrate sweet “Miss Boo- Bella Boobarina – Princess of Sweetness”!

For Allen’s Birthday yesterday, I gave him two little paintings of Shenandoah Valley  Golf Course.  He spends lots of time there playing golf so I thought he might like them.

They are acrylic on canvas measuring 6″x12″.

AllenWe are wishing a Happy Birthday to our sweet Allen.  He is the best guy we know.  Hope you have the best day ever!

Allen is my biggest supporter.  He is the one who encouraged me to become a full-time painter.  I never would have had the courage to try without his urging and support.

And when I ask him what he wants for his birthday (or Valentine’s Day or Christmas) he almost always says art.  What a guy!

So here are some of the paintings I have done for him over the years.  Needless to say he has a very large art collection.

I love you  – Happy Birthday Allen!

Famous Painters Party with Mary Cassatt

Famous Painters Party with Mary Cassatt

We had the October Famous Painter Party last night where we reproduced the Mary Cassatt “Lydia in the Garden Crocheting”.  Plus we love the little pup sitting in her lap.  We had a great time and the painters created beautiful paintings.

The next Famous Painters Party will be Tuesday, November 24th and we will paint a Camille Pissarro still life.  Click here to register for it.
