Kickstarter is a new way to fund creative projects. The mission is to bring creative projects to life. Kickstarter is full of projects, big and small, that are made possible by people who believe in art, music, film and design. Since it launched in 2009, more than 3.7 million people have pledged over $548 million, funding more than 38,000 creative projects including one by Virginia artist, Kelly Walker.
Walker’s project, “Painted Diamonds – 30 Parks in 30 Weeks”, created a painting of every major league ball park, all thirty of them, between April and October 2013. The project was documented and published in a catalog as well as on Kelly’s blog. There was an exhibition of the entire series at the Blue Ridge Arts Council in Front Royal, VA, during World Series Week, October 23-31, 2013. Walker pre-sold 11 original paintings during the Kickstarter project. You can see full project information on Kickstarter by clicking here.
You can see all of the Painted Diamonds here. The remaining original paintings are available for $395 by contacting kwalker@doubledogdesigns.com .
And if you are interested in ordering a print, poster, or catalog just click this PDF link and place your order. Order Form
Walker painted an additional painting in the series. It is Bing Crosby Stadium (SOLD!), the local ball field and one that is loved by baseball fans in Front Royal community. Prints of The Bing are available for order.
I see great things in baseball. It’s our game – the American game. ~Walt Whitman
These old ballparks are like cathedrals in America. We don’t have big old Gothic cathedrals like they do in Europe. But we got baseball parks. ~ Jimmy Buffett
“Baseball, it is said, is only a game. True. And the Grand Canyon is only a hole in Arizona.” ~ George F. Will
If a horse can’t eat it, I don’t want to play on it. ~Dick Allen, on artificial turf, 1970
Putting lights in Wrigley Field is like putting aluminum siding on the Sistine Chapel. ~Roger Simon, 1988
Baseball is like church. Many attend, few understand.” ~ Leo Durocher
I believe in the Church of Baseball. I tried all the major religions and most of the minor ones. I’ve worshipped Buddha, Allah, Brahma, Vishnu, Siva, trees, mushrooms and Isadora Duncan. I know things. For instance, there are 108 beads in a Catholic rosary and there are 108 stitches in a baseball. When I learned that, I gave Jesus a chance. ~ Ron Shelton, Bull Durham, 1988

Kelly,
Your baseball park paintings are all very impressive! I really like them and am hoping to get one of your prints of the Camden Yards park as I have been there several times and really love that ball park. I wanted to come to your opening but was out of town that evening. I plan on going over to the exhibit tomorrow or Monday.
Thanks Sheila. Wish you could have been at the opening. The gallery is open Monday-Friday so be sure to stop by BRAC and see it before it leaves on November 8th. And prints will be available at Delilah’s next week. Or just contact me if you need one. Thanks again.
I’m so proud of you, Kelly! You have done an exceptional, excellent job on
all these baseball parks! Can’t wait for the party on October 23rd!
Thanks! Glad you will be coming to the opening. I appreciate the support.
Impressive, I’ve never been to a baseball game, but city landscapes are important to record in time, as they change over the decades. This collection should tour are minimally, be in the BaseBall Hall of Fame! (Is there such a place, I’ll bet!) Who knows, I may even make it to a ball park someday.
So excited to see St Louis! Will you have the Musial outfield memorial included in it?
I’ll see if I can get it in. The size along the wall is pretty small but we may be able to distinguish it.
Looks Great! All of these look great, I hope one of these days i can have every print in my Man Cave when i own my own house, Keep it up!
