Famous Painters March Van GoghWe had the best time at the Famous Painters Party last night at The Studio painting Van Gogh’s Yellow Chair.  Everyone did a fabulous job working on their 16″ x 20″ canvas.  They look so good!  We are going to do the companion piece “Gauguin’s Chair” at the May 24th session.

Crochet Temp Blanket JanuaryI had gotten so far behind on my crocheted temperature blanket.  I spent time Sunday trying to catch up.  This photo is “January”.

Remember that the temperature blanket is crocheted in rows that correspond to a key that indicates the temperature for each day.  Read more about it here.  Part of the reason I fell behind is that I didn’t like the back loop single crochet stitch that I was doing so I ripped out what I had started (you can see the start in the link above) and started over  just using a plain single crochet. I used a Bobble stitch on the day we had the big snow.   I am much happier with it now.  Maybe by tomorrow I will have  February’s rows finished.  See it’s not too late to start your own.

Soccer Team 2Soccer Team 12   The ROX Soccer Team rocked it out this weekend as they painted their logo.  They did a super job.  Way to go girls!

March Pets.jpgI love it when people paint their pet’s portraits.  They turn out so great.  And yesterday was no different.  Take a look at these beauties!

Clarence II Clarence is a painting I did several years ago.  (See it here.)  He belongs to a friend and when she posted a photo of him on Facebook I asked her if I could paint from her photo.  I love the way he looks.  Well so does someone else because I was asked to paint him again.  This Clarence (#2) now lives in New Jersey.

20160309_102842-1 The weather is calling for snow this weekend but we are thinking about summer.  This little painting is one that we will be doing at  a Paint Party to kick off the summer at the Warren County Community Center on Thursday, May 19th at 6 pm.  Contact the Community Center on Villa Avenue to register for this one.

BunniesThe kids painted bunnies yesterday at Kid’s Class.  Great job!

Copyright

downloadOne thing that artists face who post their images online (and that is just about all working artists these days) is that people will copy their work.  As an instructor I allow my students to copy my work for their own use.  But it is discouraging when I find other teachers in my very own community who have taken my painting and used it to hold a Paint Party.

If you are working as an artist you need to take the time to understand copyright law.  It seems confusing but it’s not at all.   “The moment you create ANYTHING visual—paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures, etc—the only person who is allowed to copy that art is you. If you decide to sell prints of one of your paintings, you can. If anyone else does, without your written permission, you have the right to take them to court and sue for damages.”   This copyright information is from Empty Easel March 18, 2008 where you can learn much more about copyright by clicking here.

But I think it is very simple.  Don’t steal!   If you didn’t create it then ask permission before you paint it if you are going to use it to sell or for profit.

Poppies 2SunflowersIt’s time to paint flowers for a change.  And we have some really nice ones coming up.  We will be doing either Poppies or Sunflowers at a Paint Party on Saturday night, March 26th in Clarksville, TN.  You can register for that one by clicking here.

But we will also be doing them in Front Royal soon too.  The date for the sunflower one is coming soon but the Poppies we will do as a fundraiser for Mountain Laurel Montessori School in April.  Info on registration will be out soon.  The event will be on Sunday afternoon, April 24th.

Won’t these be fun and look beautiful hanging in your home?!

Bday Party 1Bday Party 12Bday Party 123What better way to spend your birthday than painting with your friends.  We had two Birthday Parties at The Studio this weekend. The first was Mary’s (click her to see her photo on yesterday’s blog).  And Sunday it was Kyleigh’s 10th Birthday and she had friends come join her as she opened gifts, enjoyed cute palette cupcakes that her mom brought in for them, and painted her favorite flower…an orchid.  Great job girls!
