Dragonfly on Wood Type by Duane Keiser, oil on board, 7″x6″
About 10 years ago I read an article in USA Today about a Virginia man who started the “Daily Painting” movement. Duane Keiser was bringing art to everyone by making small paintings each day that were affordable and easily accessible online. At the time I was trying to decide which direction to take….either work again in the non-profit world or paint full-time. The concept of daily painting was intriguing to me so I decided to give it a try. I started daily painting the very next day and soon after started the blog, Life of a Daily Painter, and have been doing it ever since. That was in 2006…and it’s been a terrific journey that has led to The Studio. I continued to follow Keiser’s blog. He started painting much bigger pieces and less of the small paintings but from time to time he still does small pieces that he offers through eBay. And while I have bid on them in the past it is only recently that I acquired one…..and I am thrilled to have it. This is a terrific example of his small works.
We painted cookies at The Studio yesterday at kid’s art class. The hardest part of the entire process was looking at the actual cookie laying beside the easels that we used to place our chips on the cookie. LOL! We couldn’t eat them until the end. Next time maybe we will have to paint a cookie with a bite out of it!
Our lesson yesterday at the Kid’s Painting Class was on blending colors. We painted a lovely still life with Pear and Cherry and they did a great job blending the colors on the fruit. Keep up the good work kids!

Harry Potter fans…it’s time to paint! I have had several people ask me to have a paint party with a Harry Potter theme. Well, here it is. This is the image we will do first. On Tuesday, May 17th you will have your chance to paint this one!
I enjoyed the private lesson with my private students yesterday as they painted similar paintings. Sophia painted her book still life with an apple and Joey painted his with a baseball. Nice job!!!
Sophia and I painted a little piece we call “Baking” yesterday during her private lesson. She did a GREAT job!
And I like how mine turned out, too.
Let them PAINT cake! And that is just what the kids did yesterday. They did a fine job. Just look at these delicious paintings!!!
