“Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise.” -Paul McCartney

Yesterday at Kid’s Art class we had a smaller group because school was out for snow…and we like those days because we can try something different. We learned about negative painting. We started our painting by using a paper towel to dab colors onto our canvas like an abstract and then painted out everything on the edge to shape a bird. The kids loved the change and so did I.

Last night at our Adult’s Art Class we all decided to get loose and paint abstracts. Thanks Marie for the push! It was great fun. We watched a short Bobblast video for inspiration…we love Bob Burridge! And off we went, painting away. This is my Big Bird…. a representational abstract piece. It was fun!

A long time friend (I won’t say old friend and neighbor) sent me a message recently about how much she enjoys a little painting that she has of mine. It’s one that I did not long after I started painting. Many of you know I didn’t start painting until I was 29. Barbara got this one before I moved from Kentucky where I was living when I discovered that I could paint. (Thanks Bob Ross!) It was a wonderful surprise to receive a message from Barbara saying that she still enjoys looking at this little piece every day. Thanks Barb for making my day.

A few weeks ago we experimented with multi-media collage work at The Studio. Boy was it fun. We used burlap panels, paint, Sharpies and beautiful scrapbook papers along with ModPodge to create these simple but lovely animal works of art. The kids did great in their class with these and I enjoyed the ones I did too! Super fun.(We did some cute dogs a few weeks ago with Sophia’s private lesson too and you can see that here.) I see a Paint Party for adults doing something like this coming soon.

Painting like Cezanne
Yesterday we studied Cezanne at Art Camp and painted Apples & Pear, a still life, just like Cezanne’s. And these kids are AMAZING! Look at what a great job they all did.
Collage Bird
And when we had a few extra minutes at the end of Monday and Tuesdays sessions we put it to good use and created a collage painting of this little bird. Beautiful!
