Here is a message recently sent out by our friends at Capon Springs. It’s not to late to join us for the Fall Retreat either for a few nights or just come out for dinner and the Paint Party on Sunday:
“Let your creative side shine and join us next week for our Fall Art Retreat (Sunday, October 27 – Thursday, October 31)! Beginners and advanced artists welcome. This retreat is the fifth collaboration with artist, Kelly Walker from The Studio in Front Royal, Virginia. The $125 per person per night rate includes your night stay, 3 meals per day, art instruction and all other Capon activities (golf and spa not included). Join us for just one night, or all four! You can bring your own art supplies and improve your skills as you paint along… or you can purchase supplies for a small supply fee.
Can’t stay overnight? Join us just for dinner and a Paint Party on Sunday, October 27th! Dinner includes spaghetti, salad and garlic bread with chocolate cake a la mode with chocolate sauce, cantaloupe and raspberry sorbet for dessert! After dinner, join Kelly for the “Follow Along” painting that anyone can do! No experience required. Pricing: $49 for dinner & paint party. Many thanks to Carla Luke, a Georgia art teacher, who gave us permission to use her idea for our Littlest Witch painting yesterday. The kids loved it! They are so ready for Trick or Treat time!
Learn to Crochet-A Perfect Hobby

Crocheting is a terrific hobby to develop. I learned as a young child from my grandmother who was patient enough to teach a curious young girl. And I’m glad she was because I have made hundreds of items over the years. It is something I can do for a few minutes in between doing other things or I can sit for hours and crochet. That is the beauty of it. You can pick it up and put it down without any preparation or clean-up. And you can take most of it anywhere to do. Stick it in a bag and crochet while in a waiting room or on a long car ride. I LOVE IT!
If it’s time for you to learn then be sure to come to The Studio on Friday, October 18th and get in on the fun. We will learn to make an infinity scarf. Click here for more information and to register.

Bread Making

Yesterday morning, before my sister has to leave to go home to Georgia (she came up to take care of Lincoln so I could go on my trip to Cape Cod for the art workshop), she gave me and my friend Ruth a lesson in bread making. She makes a ton of it where she lives as people are always requesting it for family events and fundraising. It’s a marvelous cinnamon-raisin bread. We even tried a variation using apples….and it turned out great too! It was fun to do something a little different from creating art…the only problem is that you can’t just eat one slice. Before you know it a half of a loaf is gone. Oops!
Last Day with Angus

Yesterday was the final session of the Angus Wilson workshop at the Falmouth Art Center. It was great! This is the best workshop I’ve attended in years. Angus made sure everyone got individual attention and answered all of our questions. And his demos were excellent. At the end of the day we all shared what we had produced and it was amazing to see everyone’s work. Here’s mine. I’d do this workshop again in a minute … if we can just get him back to the East coast.

While Sister was here last week dog sitting Lincoln so I could go take the workshop in Massachusetts she did some creating. She painted this beautiful barn quilt to hang on her garage at home. Didn’t it turn out GREAT???!!! If you want one we have a session coming up soon….Saturday, October 26th at 1 pm.
