The Blue Barns

kids-blue-barn-10-18The kids painted Blue Barns with orange trees this week at class.  We are always discussing complementary colors and color mixing and this was a great lesson in that.  (Don’t tell them they are actually learning while having a good time painting.  We sneak that in on them!)

Didn’t they do an awesome job?!?!  If you have a young painter they can join us.  Check out more information here.

Cookie Monsters!

Cookie Monsters.jpgWe painted cookies at The Studio yesterday at kid’s art class.  The hardest part of the entire process was looking at the actual cookie laying beside the easels that we used to place our chips on the cookie.  LOL!  We couldn’t eat them until the end.  Next time maybe we will have to paint a cookie with a bite out of it!

kids-trees-on-wc-paperThis week at our Kid’s Painting class we learned that you don’t always have to use a brush to make a beautiful painting.  We used paper towels to create these “Fall Abstract Trees” on watercolor paper.

Aren’t they FABULOUS??!!

And in the last few weeks we have painted Bicycles and the River.  If you have a   young artist or want-to-be artist ages 7-12 contact Kelly at kwalker@kellywalkerstudios.com to sign them up for class.

Painters at Work!

We had so many people working at The Studio yesterday creating beautiful works of art.  Wednesday we have regular weekly art classes for adults and children.  Adults have classes at 10:30 or 5:30 and Kids class is at 4:15.

Occasionally we have visitors who just drop in.  This happened yesterday with a young girl and her Babushka.  They wanted to paint together before she had to return home to Seattle so they painted together at the evening class.  Our young painter, Kamila, completed this little lamb painting.  She was very pleased.

Logan has been working on a large painting and decided to take a break from it yesterday to do a quick palette knife painting that she could complete in one session just to get her creative juices flowing again.

And the kids did this fun little “Saying” multi media piece.  Great work everyone!!!

Class with Terry 1

Terri Showing us how it’s done!

Yesterday I got to be the student at an art class.  It was so nice!  For years I have been friends with the wonderfully talented artist, Terri Nicholson. We met through the Blue Ridge Arts Council and showing work through their exhibits.  Later when I was teaching classes at the Arts Council Terri was thinking of teaching at Michael’s and asked me for some advice on how to go about it.  I said she should sit in on my class as the easiest way to see what I did and she did. Not long after that she started teaching at Michael’s in Winchester and Martinsburg.  Ever since then, which had been 4 or 5 years ago, I have wanted to take a class with her but we teach on the same days.  But yesterday, since I am off recuperating from my knee surgery, I went over the Winchester with a friend to take Terri’s class.  It was so much fun.  She’s a wonderful teacher.  Check her out at Michael’s. I’ve invited Terri to come and be a guest instructor at The Studio.  We are working on a date for her to come soon so watch for the date.  Trust me, you’ll enjoy her so much.
