Safeco Field Seattle Mariners

Safeco Field
Seattle Mariners

Safeco Field, home of the Seattle Mariner’s, is another of the domed baseball fields but Safeco has  a retractable roof that when closed forms an “umbrella”.  So while it is closed and shields the inside from rain it still feels very open and the view is unobscured.

This is number 27 in the series of 30.  We are getting close to the end of the series and preparing for the opening of the Painted Diamonds Exhibit that will be held at the Blue Ridge Arts Council on Main Street in Front Royal on October 23rd from 6-8 pm.

Peebles Painting 5Earlier this week I wrote about painting at Pebbles last Saturday.  (Read about it here.)  I finally got a few minutes to touch up the painting and get it closer to a finished work.  Here it is.  I have been invited to hang my work at a new winery in Hume, Winding Road Cellars so I am working on some vineyard scenes for that.  I hope to take them out there next week.

Kids VineyardLogan and Ethan did a great job yesterday in the Kid’s Art Class painting a beautiful view of a Shenandoah Valley vineyard.  Super!

If you have a young person, ages 7-13 that is interested in painting contact kwalker@doubledogdesigns.com and sign them up for a painting class.  It’s a great way for them to learn about color mixing and composition in a fun and productive environment.  And just look at the wonderful art they have at the end of each class!

I get invited to paint at special events from time to time.  A good friend of mine is manager at Peebles here in town and invited me to paint there for a special promotion they were doing last spring.  They had me back this weekend.  I painted a larger version of a small painting (Virginia WIne I, see it here) that I did a few weeks ago and I enlisted a helper.  Often, when painting on location, I invite kids to “help” me.  And usually they jump right in.  This little girl was  so much fun.  She helped me paint for a while and then she did her grandmothers make-up at a table they had set-up for people to try out some new things.  Adorable.

Virginia Wine II, is acrylic on canvas, 18″x24″ and is almost finished.  I still have a little more to do to it but we got a great deal done at the event.

Several months ago Pat came to class excited about this dog she had met recently at her family reunion.  She said it was the prettiest dog she had ever seen.  “It’s pretty as a cow!”, she said.  🙂  That’s high praise from Pat – she loves cows!  Here is the beautiful painting she just completed in art class of this pretty dog.  Great job Pat!

Completed painting of "Stacy's Tree"

Completed painting of “Stacy’s Tree”

Reference Photo for Stacy's Tree

Reference Photo for Stacy’s Tree

I took a short break yesterday from painting Ball Parks to paint one of my favorite trees in my neighborhood.  I have taken several photos of this Weeping Cherry over the years thinking I would paint it and just never took the time.  But yesterday I made myself paint it because I want to give it to Stacy, whose tree it is.  Stacy was a life saver to me a few weeks ago when I couldn’t walk because of my knee.  She’s a physical therapist and wonderful neighbor.  On the day that my knee pain was the worst and I didn’t know what to do she took out time from walking Willie, her cattle dog, to look at my problem; talk me through what I should do; and even went home and brought back crutches for me to use.  And then over the course of the next several weeks while I was hobbling around she checked on me to make sure I was making good progress.  She was such a BIG help and made me feel as if I were not going crazy.  So today when I return her crutches I wanted to give her something to say thanks.  I thought this little painting might be good.   I call it Stacy’s Tree. It’s an acrylic on canvas measuring 6″x8″.

Miller Park Milwaukee Brewers

Miller Park
Milwaukee Brewers

Miller Park, home of the Milwaukee Brewers, is number 25 in the series of 30.  And it has a retractable roof.   The left field corner features Bernie’s Dugout, where the Brewers mascot, Bernie Brewer resides.  At the beginning of the game, after every Brewers home run, and if the Brewers win, fireworks go off and Bernie slides down his slide.
