Wednesday was almost the perfect day at Art Camp.  We worked on a pointillism piece as the students learned about a different type of art.

And the Adult Class joined us later in the morning.  Jeff brought Breeze with him to class and she was the most popular one in the class.  All the kids loved her and gave her cookies.  She’s such a great dog!

But the best part of the day for me was first thing this morning before Art Camp started when Maggie brought me this painting that she did for me!  I love it!  Thanks so much Maggie.  You ROCK too!

This is Sasha.  I painted her for the winner of a drawing that was held at Sassafras Farm in June.  Remember when I went over to paint the murals there.  Check it out here.

While there Suzanne had a fundraiser for the horse rescue where she got Patriot and Zip and anyone who donated $25 or more got their name entered in the drawing.  Sasha’s mom was the winner.

So here she is.

So off she will go this week to her new home.  Thanks Suzanne for giving the painting as the prize for your drawing.  And thanks for letting me help with the fundraiser for Phoenix Equine Rescue.  (See more about it here.)

I invited some friends out to the cabin for a picnic on the 4th of July.  And of course, I invited their dogs.Lincoln, Jed, Dixie and I picked some wild flowers for arrangements to have to greet our friends upon their arrival.

The welcoming committee led people to the yard.

Lincoln decided a cool spot was under the table.  I think he really hung out under there to get whatever food might drop from above.  Jed found that scratching his back on the grass was fun.

Lucy and Suzie liked the pond.

Ordo had the BEST time.  He went for his first swim in the pond after Jenn showed him how to get into the water.  I think he loved it.  It was a fun afternoon even though it was hot.  The dogs really enjoyed running with new friends.

Dixie found a spot on the sofa after everyone left and stayed there for the rest of the evening.

Almost always the best part of painting in plein air for me is the dogs I meet (and their people).  Thursday when I was at the Dickey Ridge overlook I met Adobe.  Turns out I had run across Adobe before.  Six or seven years ago I did a series of dog paintings for a show.  The sales from the show went to benefit the Humane Society of Warren County.

This was the painting I did of Adobe, now 15 years old, with McKinley.  McKinley isn’t with us any more but his mom told me Thursday that they were glad they had the painting of the two of them.    I’m glad too.

Here are some of the other new friends I made there that day.

I love the “people” I meet when I paint outside.

Several months ago some friends who do wonderful work with German Shepherd Rescue stopped by Delilah’s with their latest rescue.  She doesn’t look at all like a German Shepherd!

This little Gem is the cutest thing.  She was bashful on her first visit but let me snap this photo.  I couldn’t resist painting it.

She came back to visit a few weeks ago and has grown a little and is more outgoing and a little less skittish.  And she is definitely a daddy loving girl.  Her dad has salt and pepper hair and a beard so they even look a little alike.

A Little Gem, acrylic on canvas, 16″x12″, available at Delilah’s or by contacting kwalker@kellywalkerstudios.com .

This is Jacob.  He is one of my private students.  He’s 6.

A few weeks ago I asked him what he wanted to paint next and he said Buffy.  Buffy is his old golden retriever.  Buffy is almost twice as old as Jacob and  you can tell he loves her.

So we painted Buffy.  It took two lessons and he did a terrific job.  I love helping young artists paint their pets.

Lincoln and Dixie, acrylic on canvas, 14″x18″.  Dixie is a dog in our neighborhood that loves to come visit us…usually without her parents permission.  She is quite the escape artist.  We welcome her visits as Lincoln loves her.  You can read a little more about Dixie here.

The first fence post in the Warren County Dog Park went up last week.  And the building continues.  Woo Hoo!

It shouldn’t take long to get it finished now that we have begun so we can expect the park to open this summer.  Yeah!  Woof!
