The Red Pottery Barn is an oil on canvas measuring 9″x12″.  This is a painting we are working on in our Tuesday afternoon class.  It should be finished soon.

Last night I returned home after being gone for just two hours to teach my Thursday evening art class and this is what I found.  Apparently Lincoln had a little party while I was away.  The sad thing is that all of this “stuff” was up on shelves or on the table when I left.  I don’t know how a dog with those short legs can get things from that high up.   UGH!!!

I recently received a Kindle as a gift.  And I LOVE it!  I really didn’t think I would as I do love books and the feel of one in my hand, but the Kindle is fabulous.  I started looking for a cover to make it easy to stick in my  purse and protect the screen but they were outrageously expensive so I decided to crochet one.

This one is made of felting yarn so it is felted and a little thicker than just regular yarn.

And it is just perfect for what I needed.

The problem with me crocheting is that it’s hard to put down once I start, so as you  can see I made several Kindle sleeves.  If you have a Kindle and need a sleeve, get in touch.  🙂

Yesterday afternoon I attended an event for the Blue Ridge Arts Council (BRAC) here in Front Royal.  This event is held every other year and several artists are invited to paint on location while attendees watch their progress.  Then the painting is auctioned off for the benefit of  BRAC.

Here is Michelle Summers hard at work.

And Charlie Logan….

And Elizabeth Sholder working on her painting.

Kathy Chumley working on a wonderful piece.

And Wilson Webb with a gorgeous painting of the trees with the house in the background.

And I didn’t catch Chris Stephens at the easel but this is his painting. Terrific!

The event was enjoyed by a large crowd who munched on wonderful food provided by local businesses including our great friend Katie Tewell of The Apple House.  Many thanks to everyone who helped make the event a success and for supporting the Blue Ridge Arts Council and local art.

At the first of the year for the abstract show that I did I painted a piece called Spring Explosion.  It was very popular.  In fact, it sold to a collector on the Virginia coast.  (You can see the original Spring Explosion by clicking here.)

I decided to paint a smaller version of the idea.   First I prepped the canvas.

Then I started adding some texture and the vase.

Now for more color.

And I keep adding color until I like the way it looks.  Finally a frame, and it’s done.

Spring Explosion II is an acrylic on canvas measuring 24″x30″ and is available for $295.

Let the Games Begin is an oil on 9″x12″ canvas and is available for $145.

This is another of those paintings that was started in art class and then I got busy helping students and never got back to it.  I am trying to wrap up a few of these and get my stack of unfinished paintings eliminated.  I’ll keep at it.

In the meantime, I wanted to share this photo from yesterday morning.  My dogs often bark in the backyard, much to my neighbors dismay.  This is what I saw laying in her yard and I’m thinking maybe that’s why the dogs are barking so much!

View of the Mountains XIV is an oil on canvas measuring 9″x12″ and is available for $165.

This is a view that I have painted many times as I use this photograph when teaching new students.  I like it because it gives someone new to painting an opportunity to learn color mixing as well as several different compositional lessons.

Path Through the Woods is an oil on canvas measuring 11″x14″ and is available for $285.

Lincoln had his first visit to the cabin recently and discovered the fish.  He was fascinated by them and I think they were curious about him as well.

He also spent a lot of time running through the tall grass and chasing butterflies.  He’s such a funny little guy.

Like all the dogs I have taken out there though, he hasn’t learned to pace himself and he runs until his little tongue just hangs out!  Hopefully he’ll learn soon.
