As we wind down toward the end of “Famous Painters Art Camp” week the young artists completed their Hopper painting yesterday.  They did a fantastic job with all the detail work on this one.

And then we started our final painting of the week – Warhol’s Shoes!  More tomorrow on those…

My Wednesday Adult Class was jealous that I had only posted my young artist’s paintings recently so they posed for me last night.  Here’s Pat with her terrific painting of Jack and Pokey.  And Shelly is hiding behind the lovely door painting that she is working on this week.  Nice job ladies.

And here are the young artists with their finished Jackson Pollack inspired drip painting.  Excellent!

Yesterday at Art Camp we studied two very interesting artists, Edouard Manet and Jackson Pollack.  That is the beauty of these combination weeks, we compare really different types of art.

Here are the “Lemonheads”!  The girls painted copies of Manet’s “Lemon Still Life”.  They did a great job!

And then we started working on a Jackson Pollack like drip painting.  The young artists really LOVED this part.  We went to the park so we could spread out and work with really thin paint.

This is a painting that I have done four times in the past few weeks.  It is a good painting for art lessons.  It works for young painters as well as more experienced ones.

You can see here that Rachel painted it recently.   And so did Jacob.

He’s my youngest student.  He did a great job with his painting too.

This is Rachel.  Her grandparents live in Front Royal and when she visits she often takes an art lesson with me.  Yesterday we painted together and she worked in oil for the first time.  What a terrific job Rachel.  Can’t wait until we paint together again!

One sunny day last week I took the paintings that the ladies at The Southerlands had completed in the last few months outside to give them a good coat of varnish.  There were a BUNCH of them.  I love going up there on Tuesday’s to work with these fun ladies.  They always make me smile.

I guess that is why I was so shocked when I went a few weeks ago and learned that one of my favorite students, Miss Inge, had passed away.  It was sudden and unexpected.  She had never painted before we started and she just loved what she created.

This is one of Inge’s last paintings.  I will miss her smiling face and wonderful little Jewish sayings.  She never let me squeeze out too much paint.  “We shouldn’t waste”.  I can hear her saying it now with a big, sweet smile on her face and twinkle in her eye.

Art Camp started this week with three enthusiastic painters, Isaac, Mia and Peyton.  The first thing we painted was the color wheel while we learned about color mixing.

Next we painted a mountain landscape scene to learn more about paints, brushes, canvas, and palettes.

This week our emphasis for study is Post-Impressionism so we paid homage to Boudin with a copy of his “Two Dogs in the Street”.

And Gauguin’s “The Siesta”.

Can you believe we did all of us this in just two days?

Stay tuned to see what other lovely paintings these young artist make before the end of the week.

This is Jacob.  He is one of my private students.  He’s 6.

A few weeks ago I asked him what he wanted to paint next and he said Buffy.  Buffy is his old golden retriever.  Buffy is almost twice as old as Jacob and  you can tell he loves her.

So we painted Buffy.  It took two lessons and he did a terrific job.  I love helping young artists paint their pets.
