Yesterday I was asked if I ever have time to paint since I have been teaching so much lately. And the answer is yes! Of course, with the Anniversary project I did with the 4th graders I painted a sample painting so their were about a dozen different subjects that I worked on so that I could simplify subjects for them to paint.
This painting is a spin-off of that. I painted North Entrance, an acrylic on 20″x30″ canvas, for the current show at the Blue Ridge Arts Council celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Park. You can see it at BRAC for the next month. There is some lovely work in the show. Take the time to stop in and take a look.

While showing you the mountain and rivers that the Tiger Cubs painted yesterday I thought I would show you what the Young Artists on Wednesday and Thursday did with the same subject. They did a fabulous job. I love seeing what they can do!

A few weeks ago one of the moms of one of my Thursday Young Artists asked if I might teach her Tiger Cub scouts a lesson in color mixing and painting.
Last Wednesday, we held that class. Here they are working on their painting. That’s my friend Shelly helping me with the large group.
They were very enthusiastic and seemed to really enjoy painting. The only mishap was when I accidentally dropped a paint brush on one boys head when I was trying to help him. No permanent damage, just a little green paint in his hair. Oops!
They did a terrific job…eight beautiful paintings of the mountain and river!

The Young Artists groups painted Spring Trees in Bloom last week at their classes. They all did great work. And aren’t we glad spring has sprung!

As promised yesterday I am going to tell you about our Sunday dog visitor. I was in the cabin reading and looked out
the window to check on the boys barking and I see a tail sticking up from the bank of the pond. And I think that dang Lincoln is in the water again after I just bathed him!!! But then I realize that Lincoln and Jed are both standing on the bank and the tail is still sticking up and that is what they are barking at. Turns out to be a cute little chocolate lab puppy. She had on a collar and a tag but no name, just a rabies tag.
So I go in the cabin to try to call the Sheriff’s Department in Moorefield to see if they can look up the name of the owner when I hear voices outside. I think, Aha! the owner is here. But it was a neighbor from on the hill. Luckily, he recognized the dog and knew who it belonged to. She had come from the other end of the farm, about a mile and a half away. He took her back to her home but not before Lincoln and Jed got to sniff and run and play with her for a while.

I’m a little late with today’s post because we just returned from the cabin this morning. And who was waiting for us on the front stoop??? Dixie! She’s back. And she was so glad to see Lincoln and Jed. She came right into the house and right out the doggie door, begging them to run and chase her.
She seems to be a little camera-shy. I had an old pink bandana that I tied around her neck but she wasn’t sure she wanted her picture taken.
Tomorrow I’ll tell you about the other dog who visited us out at the cabin yesterday.

I was asked a couple of times this week about the “Bark for the Park” Art Show and Sale. It’s not too late to see it. It will be hanging at the Community Center until May 15th.
And it’s certainly not too late to purchase a painting to help the park. Just contact Kym at the Blue Ridge Arts Council or me to let us know which painting you would like. Just like this little Lhaso Apso, all the paintings in this show are 12″x12″ acrylic on canvas and priced at $125 with all the proceeds going to the park. You can also scroll back through the posting on this blog to see the paintings and select from one that hasn’t yet sold.
Or if you would just like to support the park you can send a donation to the Warren County Dog Park Association, c/o Kelly Walker, 939 S. Marshall St., Front Royal, VA 22630. Any amount is welcomed and appreciated!

The students at E. Wilson Morrison were great painters and very enthusiastic about the painting project.

And they did an excellent job on their painting, don’t you think?

A group of wonderful young artists and volunteers. Good job!!!
