Every once in a while we allow the kids to choose what they want to paint. It’s called Make-up Day. Yesterday that is just what we did. They selected from some paintings that we have done over the last year that they may have missed. They did a great job!

Congratulations to Front Royal – named 2016 Top Mid-Size Adventure Town by Blue Ridge Outdoors magazine. WooHoo! Since we are located at the entrance to Shenandoah National Park and situated where the two forks of the Shenandoah River come together there is so much for people to do here outdoors. There is more in a nice article about the winners that you can read here. Franklin, NC was named the small town along with Roanoke, VA as the large town. Well done Front Royal!

There has been lots of great painting going on at The Studio recently. Take a look. Sarah finished her portrait of Reggie; Caleb had his first lesson and did a great job with a mountain scene.
Lauren completed this beautiful pumpkin still life; and Logan finished her Beach Sign. Great work everyone!

Two of my favorite painting sisters were back at The Studio yesterday for a Birthday Party….and I got to meet Mom! Thanks Liz and Carol for bringing such a fun group and for wanting to paint the Meem’s Covered Bridge.
Here are some photos to enjoy.

Last night I spent some time at the Clarke County Ruritan Fairgrounds helping judge the Heritage Festival Gourd competition. If you have some time on your hands this weekend and like heritage arts the Clarke County Fairgrounds is the place to be. There are LOTS of gourds for sale….large ones to make birdhouses, small ones to make decorative items….as well as other beautiful arts that are becoming lost in our technological world.
The festival, sponsored by the Virginia Lovers’ Gourd Society, is today, Saturday from 9-5 and Sunday from 9-4. (Admission is a non-perishable food item for the local food bank.)
There were some beautiful entries in the contest and this year the group has become a nationally sanctioned competition. It is worth the ride over to see this weekend.
