This is a crochet stitch that I hadn’t tried before and I am so glad I finally found it.  It’s crochet but it looks very much like knit.  I love it.  I worked up this little blanket with Caron Cakes self-striping yarn….love it too.  So easy to use and makes a wonderful wide stripe.  Working on a few more new stitches that we may be able to use for a scarf class this fall at The Studio.  Stay tuned!

Two of my weekly art students completed paintings yesterday.  Ethan comes to the Kids class from 4:15-5:15 and he did a palette knife painting from a live set up of flowers.  That’s a challenge and he did a great job with it.  Lauren attends Wednesday evening class at 5:30 pm.  She did this lovely little sunflower to hang in her daughter’s room.  Beautiful….nice work!  If you would like to learn to paint or improved your painting skills join us for art class.  Here’s more information here.

We had a small but enthusiastic group who bravely painted the Bonnard Poppies last night at The Studio.  Nice work everyone!  It wasn’t as hard as we thought it would  be.  And they are beautiful. The next Famous Painter Party will be Tuesday, September 26th at 6 pm.  Maybe a Monet?

We spent yesterday afternoon working with the enthusiastic faculty and staff of Gesher Jewish Day School in Fairfax painting a team building “mural” that will hang in their school.  The group was divided into nine teams that painted canvases using written directions and communication with the other teams.

These canvases will be put together to make one large mural painting that will be on display.  And each participant will get a print of the completed work to keep.  Their landscape painting of a bridge (Gesher means Bridge) turned out great!  Nice work everyone.  You worked well together.  Thanks to Head of School, Dan Finkel, for inviting us to work with you all. We know you’ll have a terrific school year.

NOTE:   If you have a group interested in a team building event check out more information here.

Palette Knife Aug17Palette Knife painting is not as easy as it looks.  Try making art look like something just using a knife!  It ain’t that easy as 15 people found out yesterday at The Studio.  But the challenge didn’t deter them.  They all came up with some amazing paintings at our Palette Knife Party.  Great work everyone!  Now that was fun!

The next fun class at The Studio is tomorrow night for our Famous Painter Party.  Click here to see it and register.

20170819_170147Always our favorite each month….PET PORTRAITS!  We had several painters yesterday paint memorial portraits of favorite pets who are gone but not forgotten.  Great job everyone.

Staying Ahead

At least a couple of times a week I have people say “how much fun your job must be” and I always agree.  It is fun being a painter!  I love it.  It seems carefree and easy.  And some days it is.  But I am often like that duck in the water seeming calm and floating along on the top of the water and peddling my legs off underneath!  The peddling involves staying ahead of the Paint Parties and commissions.  Just coming up with ideas or developing an idea that clients have and painting them in a way that will be simple so we can  use them for a 2 – 3 hour  paint party takes time. I enjoy it but some days I have to paint a LOT to keep up.  This past week I did just that.  Here are some of the paintings that I’ve worked up for upcoming events.   JUST PAINT!!!!

Bonnard PoppiesWe continue with our Famous Painter Paint  Party series at The Studio next Tuesday featuring a painting by Post Impressionist Pierre  Bonnard.  He was a French painter and print maker who preferred to work from memory and sketches using intense color.  Join us Tuesday, August 22nd at 6 pm as we paint this lovely work of art.  No experience necessary.  Click here to register.

Barn with Flag 3AHere is a variation on the barn posted yesterday.   It’s a subtle difference with this one having a little larger flag.  For the Paint Party on September 2nd you can choose the version you prefer to paint.  Come join us and give it a try.  Register here.
