Don’t judge me! I love fabric….and no, there is NEVER ENOUGH FABRIC! While on vacation I found a great fabric shop that was just a couple of miles from where we were staying and I got some pretty pieces of fabric. And when I got home I needed just one more day away. I decided to make a run to the Lancaster area and do a little more fabric shopping. I may have gone overboard. LOL! I’m not worried though. I’ll use it up pretty quick. 🙂 Now to find a place to put it all.

I call this one the Builder’s Star because it was the Christmas gift I made for the “Honey Puddin’ “….and he is a builder! I wish I could have gotten a better photo of it. It’s huge….the biggest quilt I have made so far but I knew he wanted a quilt that would cover his queen size bed so this one turned out 75″x98”. I really love how these stars work together. When I chose the two stars I didn’t realize the serendipity of having a heart appear in between the two stars when I put them together. Perfect! I still think handmade gifts are the best! He LOVED it. It is really hard to make something for him without him seeing it as he comes in and out all the time as I am sewing and quilting. When he asked about what I was working on last week I told him it was a quilt for an upcoming class in January. I think he believed me because when our friend Wilma was here for Christmas Eve dinner I asked her to help me photograph a big quilt I just completed. I had to stand on a chair and still couldn’t hold it up high enough for the photo to cover it all. Allen watched this and when we finished he said he wondered if maybe he could have that quilt when I was finished with it for the class. That’s when I flipped it to the back side to show him the label (See below). Merry Christmas!

Like any good quilter I couldn’t bear to discard the cat cutout from the dog and cat applique that I posted yesterday. See it here. I didn’t need it for yesterday’s project but he was too cute to throw away. So this morning I thought I would rework a sweatshirt and turn it into a cute “Cat Cardigan”. And here it it! I bought a bunch of sweatshirts several years ago to do another project and never did use them all so I dug one out and pulled some fabric from the stash for the bottom and trim and appliqued the little cat on it. I think it works!!! So here is another idea for applique for those who are coming to the class in January. Learn more about the class and be sure to sign up for it here.

I mentioned yesterday that I had another Jelly Roll applique that I was working on as an example for an upcoming class. Here it is…a little Best Friends wall hanging. This is just an example of what you can do with machine applique. We will have a class at The Studio on Saturday, January 7th at 1 pm if you would like to learn this fun technique. There is so much you can do with it from quilts to wall hangings to jackets to jeans. Applique works for a lot of different projects. Come learn how. Click here for more information and to register. Space is limited so don’t wait too long to get in on it!

Just completed this lap quilt (or wall hanging) using batiq jelly roll and other fabric from my stash. I was working on some ideas for a large applique for an upcoming class. I have another idea under the needle right now and when I complete it today I’ll post it and we will schedule the class. These are fun and give you an opportunity to make something specific to you or the person you are going to gift with your work! Watch for it!

My good friend and dog sitter extraordinaire, Sandy, recently celebrated her birthday. She had gotten this cute denim jacket but to make it special like she is I added an applique for her. She chose the symbol for Good Luck. It looks great on her and suits her perfectly! Belated Happy Birthday Sandy!
