At this month’s class we learned to join our quilt blocks. Terry and Sherry got theirs put together and now all that is left is the borders and bindings that we will do in January. These Sampler quilts have been such a good learning experience…twelve quilt blocks and a new method for quilting. What a great class! If you are interested we have a seat left in the latest session. Wilma just completed her sampler quilt from Class 1 of the Block of the Month sessions. It looks GREAT! She decided to make hers larger than the 12 blocks the rest of us did by duplicating some of the blocks for a total of 20. It really looks nice. Well done Wilma!!!

I am so proud of these quilters!!!! Remember that we started a Quilt as You Go Sampler Quilt class last fall where we learned to make a different quilt block or two each month and then learned how to put it all together with the Quilt as You Go method? Well here are some of the quilters who completed their quilts recently. Aren’t they all beautiful???!!!!! I love how we made the same 12 quilt blocks and how everyone’s quilt turned out differently showing off their personalities. And some of these ladies, most in fact, were new to quilting. Isn’t that amazing???!!!! I think so. The good news is we have another class starting October 16th and it’s not too late for you to get in on it and make one of these beauties. Click here for more info or contact Kelly at kwalker@kellywalkerstudios.com to join. Great work quilters….I am so, so proud of what you accomplished!

Our first Block of the Month quilt is completed. At least my sample is done. The first two classes who have been making these blocks will be finishing theirs in the next couple of months. They have almost finished the blocks and will be learning how to put them together. This has been such a fun project. The “Quilt As You Go” method is a great way to learn to quilt on a domestic sewing machine. If you are interested in learning to quilt or maybe you quilt but would like to learn a new technique then this is for you. We have a new Block of the Month session starting on Saturday, June 18th. Don’t you want to join us? Check it out here and register early. We are limited to six for these classes so register early.

Back in September we started our Block of the Month classes. The two groups have been learning how to make different block designs each month. While the classes will be making number 9 and 10 this month I just finished the last two blocks so I can show them the way it will all look together at the next class. It is such a fun project and a great way to learn with others who enjoy the same type of sewing.

The Studio is introducing a new ongoing workshop. Join us on the 4th Sunday each month for our “Quilt Block of the Month” (BOM) series. This will offer a chance for beginning quilters to learn new skills and techniques and for those who have experience quilting will discover new patterns while enjoying fellowship with like-minded crafters. We will create a new block each month for a total of 12 designs. During the sessions we will also use the “Quilt As You Go” method so that at the end of the year you will have a beautiful sampler quilt! This is a great way to discover new patterns and new methods that you can apply to other projects throughout the year. Be warned though: THIS IS A FUN AND ADDICTING HOBBY!!!! LOL! (Can you tell that we are excited about this project?!)
The first block we will be making is the “String” Block. String quilts originated as a technique created by budget-conscious quilters as a perfect use for leftover scraps of fabric. It is a great way to use quilting scraps but it is also suited to purchasing fabrics that coordinate and cutting them into “strings” or using jelly rolls. We will learn to use the easy sew-and-flip technique with this block.
For this first block you can come and use “scrap” fabric that we have available. That way you can decide if you like quilting before making an investment in fabric. Then if you want to continue to join in the year long Sampler Quilt project you can pick up your own fabric featuring colors and patterns you love. Or if you are sure you are going to LOVE this (and I know you will) you can go ahead and select some fabrics to use for the project that will make a beautiful end result.
First Session Fee: $ 25 includes written instructions as well as in person instruction for the Block of the Month as well as ideas for other projects for the block. (Space is limited for our sewing sessions so register early.) Click here to register.
