Hard at Work Painting

Yesterday we had a great group painting at the Senior Center to benefit Meals on Wheels.  Our Senior Center has a wonderful staff who provide a hot meal for seniors each day as well as a variety of activities for them.

There are  many seniors in our community trying to survive on a small pension check each month.  The Center helps them in so many ways.  And they can use your help.  Donate items…they need food stuffs, clothing, etc.  They even could use knick-knacks that they use for Bingo prizes.  So when you are cleaning out closets and basements this spring consider helping the seniors by boxing up some items for them.  The smallest thing can go a long way to helping someone.  And the staff at the Senior Center would welcome your help.

Hedwig

20160420_074948 (2) I painted Hedwig as a Harry Potter themed piece trying to come up with something we can do for a Harry Potter Paint Party that I have been asked to do.  Turns out this one will be a little too difficult to do at a Paint Party so I will try to come up with something else.   Good news is this one SOLD.

Keep watching for a Harry Potter Paint Party.

NFCU 1NFCU 3NFCU 2We had a blast teaching a Paint Party for Navy Federal Credit Union staff at the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley last night. (Learn more about the museum and their exhibits here.)   We had a large group of overachievers so of course, the did GREAT!  We painted a nice little spring valley scene with an apple tree.  Since some of the attendees were visiting from Pensacola, FL they got a nice little souvenir to take home.

Terrific work everyone!  And thanks for the really good time.

Yesterday was a busy day with two paint parties – one at the Holiday Inn and one at The Studio.  Rice Tire from Maryland is having a retreat/convention here and invited us to have a Paint Party for their attendees spouses.  We had a large and enthusiastic group.  Everyone did a great job and is going home with a wonderful souvenir of their time in the Shenandoah Valley.

The afternoon saw us painting at our 1st Saturday Paint Party where we painted the third in our Four Seasons series – the Spring Tree.  They looked GREAT!

Lots of beautiful art was made yesterday!

BDS Spot Lamp

Spot Lamp

I was asked why we stopped in Roanoke on the trip back from ConGT last weekend.  (Read about ConGT here.)  We were looking for a place to stop where we could do something fun that was on the way home.  Carolyn and Jen suggested Black Dog Salvage.  They watch Salvage Dogs, a DIY TV show that specializes in reclaiming items and repurposing them.  We went to  their warehouse.  It was AMAZING!  Check their website out here.

BDS Cake Lamp

Cake Cover Lamp

We met some of the guys and gals from the show and we  met their Black Dog, Sally, who  is an old girl getting ready to retire and her replacement, Maggie May.  I know you can’t believe I didn’t get a  photo of them but I was too busy petting them.  🙂   I did make a couple of purchases.  I got a really cool pair of lamps with spot lights that will work great a The Studio to help shed light in some areas that get a little dark at night.  I also found  a cool “Cake Cover” lamp that was just too cute to leave behind.

If you ever get to Roanoke…or better yet make a special trip there just to go to Black Dog Salvage.  It’s worth it!

20160326_135959-1.jpgYesterday we saw images from ConGT in Clarksville, TN where Dr. Who fans came together to share their enthusiasm for the series.  We saw characters from the show and many people who stayed in character all throughout the weekend.

20160326_115841-1.jpgThere were food trucks with great food!

20160326_162049-1.jpgThere was even a wedding of two people from Washington State who had met through their love of Dr. Who and allowed the “Doctor” to marry them in front of the attendees.  And then they hopped in the Tardis and took off for their honeymoon. 20160326_162055-1-1.jpgBut best of all there was art and good friends.

20160326_173316-1.jpgOne guy won a Tardis painting that I did as a demo at the VIP reception.  Turns out his young son is a big fan so all the better he won.

20160326_220720-1.jpg20160327_123343.jpgAnd seeing friends from two different states get to know one another was just so much fun for me along with getting to spend time with them all.  It was a terrific weekend!
