I visited Montpelier yesterday.  It was a terrific day trip to learn more about how James and Dolley Madison lived.  It was really interesting and very well done.  While they didn’t allow photography inside the mansion there was plenty of wonderful things to take pictures of outside.

And of course, while there I had to pay my respects to the author of our Constitution at the family cemetery.   Montpelier is near Orange, Virginia and if you are ever in the area it is worth the time.  Click here for more info.

Yo-Yo Projects

Yesterday I worked on a Yo-Yo project or the upcoming class.  The Yo-Yo quilt was a popular style of quilt making in America from the 1920-40s. These small tiny circles of fabric were gathered and sewn together to create a three-dimensional effect. Then, as now, Yo-Yo quilts are popular because women can carry small pieces of fabric with them and make Yo-Yos whenever they have a little free time.

On April 1st at 10 am we will learn a quick and easy way to make nicely shaped Yo-Yos that are perfect for quilts as well as embellishments for covers, table runners, bags and more.  Join us at The Studio for this fun and informative class.

The fee of $35 includes tools needed to make Yo-Yos as well as fabric to make practice Yo-Yos.  You’ll leave with the skill to make whatever Yo-Yo project you like!  Click here to register.

Barn Quilt  Lately I have been fascinated with Barn Quilts.  I don’t know why but I love how they look.  So I thought we might try a painting of a barn with a quilt design…and then who know, we may end up making our own barn quilt to hang on a barn or shed.  Wouldn’t that be fun?!  (The Barn Quilt Paint Party will be on Tuesday, April 4th.  Click here to register.)
