For a couple of years now we’ve been asked to work with international students who attend Virginia International Academy in Front Royal. These four students are all from China and yesterday we had our first session….without electricity due to the windy weather. Even without lights we created color wheels and discussed color mixing and painted these nice little sketches using just three colors- Ultramarine Blue, Cadmium Yellow Light, and Cadmium Red Medium plus a little Titanium White. Pretty good for just three colors in about 30 minutes! Looking forward to working with these students for several more weeks.

I only have a couple of sessions left with the students from Virginia International Academy so I gave them their choice of what to paint and they requested the evening river scene from a previous Paint Party. They did a great job. They’ll be leaving soon and I’m glad that we got to work with them even for a few months at The Studio.

Over the past few weeks I have been working with students from the Virginia International Academy. VIA is full immersion boarding school for ESL high school students preparing them to enter mainstream academic programs. (You can read more about it here). These students want to go on to study some form of art eventually so they come to The Studio for lessons for 10 weeks while attending VIA. They did a fabulous job on our painting of this craggy old tree.

Busy Day Creating Art

Friday was a super busy day. First we had Open Studio where I caught up with supply orders and class descriptions and a painter came in to start a new piece for a gift. Then it was to load up all the supplies and go to Lake Frederick where we had a super fun group painting at their Paint Party. Great work everyone!
And then back to The Studio in time to unload everything and set up for a late class with my Virginia International Academy students. They finished up a painting we started the week before. Fabulous!
It’s fun helping others discover how much they enjoy painting.
