In September we received a grant from Target to teach an art residency at Warren County Middle School.
I spent the day with 13 wonderful young people who attacked the project with enthusiasm.
The project was part of the 175th Anniversary of Warren County project so we painted pieces that relate to our history both past and present.
Each student painted two 12″x12″ panels that related to government, education, tourism, transportation, or agriculture.
We put these together into four larger panels that will be unveiled this evening at WCMS at 6 pm. If you are downtown this evening and would like to see them in person stop by and help us celebrate these wonderful young artists and their accomplishment!
And many thanks to Target for sponsoring this project; to Linda Kusior and Shelly Brugal, two wonderful artists who assisted us with the class; and the Blue Ridge Arts Council for continuing to bring exciting art projects to young people in our community.

At the Festival of Leaves last Saturday I worked on a couple of the Farm Animal series paintings.
The first was Mean Rooster from Suzanne’s farm. You can read more about him here.
This was the beginning of the painting.
And I made progress on it throughout the day.
And here’s Mean Rooster nearly finished. This is an oil painting on 8″x6″ canvas panel. He is part of the Farm Animal Series that you can see at Delilah’s on Main Street in Front Royal.

We had a great opening reception for the art campers yesterday afternoon at the Community Center. Many of the students were there and lots of art admirers to encourage their work.
It was good to see the students showing off their work to their family and friends.
And I especially loved that Jackson Pond has four generations of his family there to help him celebrate his art!
Good job everyone. The Art Campers Art Display will be at the Community Center until the first week in November. Please stop by and see their wonderful art for yourself!

Suzanne’s Scarecrow, acrylic on panel, 6″x8″, $135. This is another in the farm animal series that I started a few years ago thanks to Chicken’s in the Road’s Suzanne McMinn. She has a terrific blog; check it out. And she takes fabulous photos of her animals and has graciously allowed me to use them as inspiration for this series. Thanks again Suzanne. We all love your babies!

Schnauzer is an acrylic on 12″x12″ canvas. And thanks to a generous collector in Front Royal, he was purchased with proceeds going to help build the Off-leash dog park. Many thanks.
The “Bark for the Park” series is on display at the Daily Grind on Main Street in Front Royal. Stop in and take a look. And if you would like to help us build the dog park, send a donation to Warren County Dog Park Association, 939 S. Marshall St., Front Royal, VA 22630. We are so close to our goal. Please help if you can!
