A Perfect Day

Wednesday was almost the perfect day at Art Camp. We worked on a pointillism piece as the students learned about a different type of art.
And the Adult Class joined us later in the morning. Jeff brought Breeze with him to class and she was the most popular one in the class. All the kids loved her and gave her cookies. She’s such a great dog!
But the best part of the day for me was first thing this morning before
Art Camp started when Maggie brought me this painting that she did for me! I love it! Thanks so much Maggie. You ROCK too!

Yesterday’s art camp focused on Henri Matisse. I love the brilliant colors and definite style of his work and I think the kids enjoyed it too!
Maggie and Isaac are working on their paintings and you can see Anastasia in the background hard at work.
And here is Peter and Anastasia working away.
Jade and Teaghan work on mixing just the right color to make it perfect!
Good job everyone. Now tomorrow we will show you our attempt at Pointillism.

The final week of Art Camp started yesterday with a fine group of young painters. And as usual, we started by painting a color wheel. As I told the ones who have painted with me before and already painted a color wheel, you can never paint enough of them. I’ll bet I’ve painted several hundred over the last few years and learn something every time I paint one.
The first painting we did was a landscape in an impressionistic style. And didn’t everyone do a fantastic job? Just wait to see what we do tomorrow!

This is Sasha. I painted her for the winner of a drawing that was held at Sassafras Farm in June. Remember when I went over to paint the murals there. Check it out here.
While there Suzanne had a fundraiser for the horse rescue where she got Patriot and Zip and anyone who donated $25 or more got their name entered in the drawing. Sasha’s mom was the winner.
So here she is.
So off she will go this week to her new home. Thanks Suzanne for giving the painting as the prize for your drawing. And thanks for letting me help with the fundraiser for Phoenix Equine Rescue. (See more about it here.)

Yesterday was the last day of “Famous Painters Art Week” and we completed our final painting – Warhol’s Shoes. These girls did a great job all week with their paintings and I think they learned a lot about art and art equipment. Good job Tanner, Emma, Teaghan, and Mia!
Just one more week of art camp remains this summer…starting Monday.

My Wednesday Adult Class was jealous that I had only posted my young artist’s paintings recently so they posed for me last night. Here’s Pat with her terrific painting of Jack and Pokey. And Shelly is hiding behind the lovely door painting that she is working on this week. Nice job ladies.
And here are the young artists with their finished Jackson Pollack inspired drip painting. Excellent!
Manet and Pollack, All in One Day

Yesterday at Art Camp we studied two very interesting artists, Edouard Manet and Jackson Pollack. That is the beauty of these combination weeks, we compare really different types of art.
Here are the “Lemonheads”! The girls painted copies of Manet’s “Lemon Still Life”. They did a great job!
And then we started working on a Jackson Pollack like drip painting. The young artists really LOVED this part. We went to the park so we could spread out and work with really thin paint.
