Smith Sign Finished 2A few weeks ago I got a request to paint a pet portrait on an outdoor sign.  I don’t generally paint signs but this one was special so I accepted the challenge.  I completed it and delivered it last week and the client was thrilled.  Pet Portraits are one of my favorite things to do.  Smith was a fun one!  I love the expression on his face.

Remembering Boo

tn_Boo's PaintingWhite ShepToday I am remembering Boo, a beautiful white shepherd, who came to live with  us when she was 12 years old.  We rescued her from our local shelter and she was  the perfect girl.

While she was a senior and only lived a couple more years, she was a charming addition to our family and we loved making her last years special.  Today would have been her birthday.  We miss you Boo.

Bing Crosby Stadium Front Royal, Virginia

Bing Crosby Stadium
Front Royal, Virginia

I couldn’t paint all those ball parks over the last six months and not include our very own “Bing Crosby Stadium”.  So number 31 in my series of Painted DIamonds is The Bing, as it is affectionately known in Front Royal.  It opened in April of 1950 and is the home to the Front Royal Cardinals, a collegiate summer baseball team.

There are many variations to the story of how the stadium got its name.  Here is one:

In 1948, while serving as Grand Marshall of the Apple Blossom Festival in Winchester, Bing Crosby came to Front Royal at the invitation of Senator Raymond R. Guest to help with a fund-raising campaign for a new ball park. He contributed $1,000 to the effort. In 1950, Mr. Crosby returned to Front Royal for the premiere of his movie, “Riding High”, and made another contribution of $3,572.92, which completed the fund-raising campaign.

A plaque at the stadium reads as follows:  “The stadium was dedicated on April 1, 1950.  It was erected by the people of Front Royal and Warren County in sincere appreciation of Bing Crosby’s assistance in promoting recreational facilities for the youth of this community. “

Proof for Poster I’ve spent the last couple of days preparing the layout for a poster of the Painted Diamonds series.  It went to print last night.  Woo Hoo!  This is part of the Kickstarter rewards.  Pledges at the certain level will receive a poster.  Others will get a print of a certain field and at the higher level pledge some will receive an actual painting.

We will also have posters and prints available for sale beginning next week as well as the original paintings that have not already sold.

If you have a baseball fan in your family this is a great gift idea for Christmas.  Something unique for the person who already has everything!
