Ruffled Scarf in Crochet

Because of all the crochet classes we have been offering lately at The Studio I have been doing more crochet and trying to find or write some fun patterns that students can use while practicing their new stitches. Here’s one that I have been giving students to practice single and (especially) double crochet. (There are a few more patterns here that you can check out also.)

Homespun Ruffle Scarf

I used Lion Brand Homespun Yarn – 2 (6 ounce skeins)

Ch 135. (You can adjust the length here. If you use a yarn that is smaller you may need to start with more stitches. Homespun is a bulky yarn.)

Row 1 – Turn and sc in each stitch across.

Row 2 – Ch 2. (Counts as 1^st dc) Turn and dc in first stitch. 2 dc in each stitch across.

(If you want a full scarf, repeat Row 2. – The sample above was made using two of row 2.)

Row 3 – Ch 2 (Count as 1^st dc) Turn and 2 dc in first stitch. 3 dc in each stitch across.

April 25-26, 2015 – SOAP-CRAFTING & CROCHET at Sassafras Farm, Clio, West Virginia

This retreat will be two full days, from 8:30 a.m. until approximately 5 p.m. each day, with themed workshops centered around treating yourself with some old-fashioned DIY style and indulgence. Soap-crafting workshops will focus on the art of melt-and-pour soap with a variety of styles and designs as well as crochet crafts related to the bath and learning to paint as well. June 13-14, 2015 – WILDFLOWER POWER

Embroidery Wildflower Sampler

Get your wildflower power on! This retreat will be two full days, from 8:30 a.m. until approximately 5 p.m. each day, with themed workshops centered around flower power! We will pick flowers then make some wildflower jelly, create wildflower syrups and infusions, bake with wildflowers, make candles with flowers, embroidery wildflowers as well as paint them. Two Great Paint Parties

We had two great groups for Paint Parties this weekend.

We had a private paint party on Friday with a group of ladies who work at the hospital and then Saturday we had a Paint Your Pet Portrait party.

March is Here – It’s National Crochet Month!

March is finally here! It’s National Crochet Month. WooHoo! So many things to make. We have had several classes for crochet at The Studio over the past few months and many people have picked up this terrific hobby. I hope you will all get busy during crochet month and make something wonderful. Check out a few of the patterns that I have put together here.

We have a Beginning Crochet Class today at The Studio from 1-3 pm. Come join us and learn the basic stitches you will need to make everything!

Working on Retreat Samples

Embroidery Wildflower Sampler

For the past few weeks I have been working on demonstration samples for several upcoming retreats where I will teach. We will be doing all kinds of creative things from painting to crochet to embroidery to sewing. Trying to get all this done while also keeping up with my regular classes has been hectic.

Here is a little “Wildflower Sampler” in embroidery that we will be doing at a Retreat this summer at Sassafras Farm in West Virginia. It’s very sweet!

Swimming Baby Ducks

Pat & Baby Goats

I love baby goats. They are just the cutest little things. And Pat painted two recently. Her daughter has a little farm and has baby goats that look just like these. So adorable. Great job Pat!

** Pierre Auguste Renoir was born February 25, 1841 in Limoges, France. He was a French painter and one of the central figures of the impressionist movement (a French art movement of the second half of the nineteenth century whose members sought in their works to represent the first impression of an object upon the viewer). His work is characterized by a richness of feeling and a warmth of response to the world and to the people in it.

Renoir was so passionate about painting that he even continued when he was old and suffering from severe arthritis. Renoir then painted with the brush tied to his wrists.

Old Flowers Hold Up Well

This photo was recently posted on Facebook by a dear friend in Nashville who has this little painting that I did when I first started painting. I’m not sure if there is a date on it but I would guess it was in the early 1990’s. I am delighted that Jean is still enjoying this little piece of art. Thanks for sharing it with me Jean. It made my day to see it.

Demo Painting for TVOR

The demonstration painting from The Village at Orchard Ridge class is finally complete. (Here is an earlier look at this painting.) Since we only meet 2 Fridays per month it takes a little longer to complete these. And I want to be sure the students get their painting to the place they want it to be before we call it done. They all did great!

Now to see what they want to paint next!
