A couple of days ago we posted the Patriotic Table Runner that we have a workshop set up for on two Mondays in May. Here is the same pattern using different colors just so you can see that there are so many options available to make beautiful things once you learn the basics. Same basic pattern in a whole different color scheme….

After the last few Rag Quilt classes we were asked to have a “regular” quilting class. Of course, traditional quilting is more detailed than the simplicity of Rag Quilts but they are great fun to make and there are so many variations. This pieced quilted table runner is a good example of a beginning quilting project…and just in time for Memorial Day and the 4th of July! Click here to register for this two-part class on Monday, May 15th and 22nd.

Sometimes a last minute drive up in the Shenandoah National Park produces some terrific painting ideas. This is one from late yesterday afternoon.

On Monday I visited with friends at the Battlefield Equestrian Center (Sander’s Ranch) and met loads of beautiful animals. Of course, I took many reference photos because the kids in my art classes LOVE to paint animals. So at this week’s classes we painted Finn. What a handsome guy! Here are the paintings that the kids did along with my demo piece and more photos of Finn and Lucky.

Twenty-three years seems like forever. That’s how long it’s been since we lost my mom, Barbara Ann Chancey Walker. She was a wonderfully beautiful soul and I miss her every day.

Yesterday I got to finish the “Pup Walk” applique and quilt piece that was started a few years ago. I love the way raw edge applique looks and wanted to give it a try along with free motion quilting. Plus I have a different machine with decorative stitches that I wanted to test. I let other things get in the way of sewing and needlework so I was glad to finally get back to it. There are several more projects that I’d like to try using this technique. Lots of possibilities.

After our last couple of Rag Quilt Classes we were asked by some participants to have some other quilting classes….simple ones for beginners. So one that we are working on preparing a couple of samples to get people started in piece quilting. One that is going to be scheduled soon is the Coin Quilt. There are many varieties of way to put these together. It’s simple but helps to learn quilting basics. Watch for it on the calendar soon.
