20171106_0607081686959471.jpgSeveral weeks ago I shared with you a post of painting out at Sander’s Ranch and while there  I was joined by a friend who painted me!  Read about that here.  20171106_0623081116911616.jpgI love the little watercolor painting and got it framed and up on the wall with other paintings that I have of artists at work.  I love that subject as you might imagine.  20171106_062207586775259.jpgOne of my favorites is this large painting by Wilson Webb of an artist in a class working on a new piece.  It was a sad day when we lost Wilson a few years ago.  I miss seeing his work.  But that is the beautiful thing about having original art in your living spaces.  They all have meaning and stories behind them.  I love that about art.

20171104_1153341554298602.jpgI drove over to the Old Luckett’s Store for their Fall Festival this morning.  The drive was beautiful.  I like to take little backroads and see what I can see.  Today it was a beautiful view with these llamas in the field.  We live in a lovely part of the country.  And Luckett’s was fun too!

Last January I shared a post with you about my friend Jean Barbour.  She attended art classes with me for  several years.  You can read that here.  Yesterday I had the great pleasure of helping her husband, Chuck Barbour, hang Jean’s art in a display at our library.  Her work looks so nice hanging there.  And it was fun to reminisce about the pieces as we hung them.  She enjoyed painting so much.  She enjoyed her family and travel and often painted from photos she took while on trips with her family.20171102_1645561257582090.jpg  It was always a delight to have Jean in class.  We miss her.  Jean’s art will be on display at Samuels Public Library through the month of November.

Yesterday at Kid’s Class we painted Flamingos.  The kids did a great job on theirs.  At the end of class I showed them how they can “doll” their paintings up with extras…like a wreath for Christmas on this Flamingo.  How about a Christmas Bird?  Is this one you’d like to paint?

Warhol Sled.jpgAs much as I despise starting with the Christmas “stuff” already, it is something we have to do to prepare for parties with a Christmas theme.  So here is our next Famous Painters party with a holiday theme.  We are painting a Warhol sled.  Join us on Tuesday, November 28th at 6 pm and personalize your sled and packages.  Click here to register.

Happy Halloween!

20171026_052201.jpgHappy Halloween from these little monsters.  They created some really cute Halloween inspired work this past week.

I got some different yarn at the Fiber Fair this past weekend and worked up this asymmetrical scarf.  I love the drape of it.  It’s called Zig Zag by Interlacements.  I’ll be ordering some more as I really like it.  Check them out here.

Walking around the show at Southeastern Animal Fiber Fair we saw so many interesting things…and great ideas.  And the funny thing is we went all the way to Asheville only to find the best new idea by an artist from our own town – Front Royal.  Melissa Yoder Ricks with Wild Hair Fiber Studio had this interesting loom to make these terrific pieces of weaving that can be incorporated into hats, sweaters, etc.  I loved them.  I’ll be experimenting with it soon. Check Melissa out here.

I’m learning something new today….Tunisian Crochet!  The Southeastern Animal and Fiber Festival in Asheville provides many learning opportunities.  Sheryl Thies, the author of many Tunisian Crochet books is our teacher. So excited.

Colors of Travel

Yesterday we drove to Asheville for the Southeastern Animal and Fiber Festival. We’re going to learn new skills.  The colors weren’t as brilliant as I expected but still nice.   More on the festival tomorrow.
