Archive for the ‘daily painter’ Category

selfie-5It was nine years ago today that I posted my first entry on “Life of a Daily Painter” blog.  It’s hard to believe it’s been that long.  NINE YEARS!
I started blogging as a way to share the daily paintings that I was creating and to hopefully sell some as I try to make a living as an artist.  But after a year or so the blog developed into more.  As I started teaching more I would share the work of my students.  They enjoy seeing their work and hearing your comments on what they are doing.

And now that we have The Studio – A Place for Learning (a creative teaching co-op) I am sharing the creativity of others who take all sorts of classes there.

Huge Student ClassAnd in the midst of all the posts about art and creating  I have shared stories about my dogs (here is one of my favorite about Truman) , some painting tips, museum travel suggestions (here is one that features the “French” Lincoln),  recipes, crochet patterns and memories of my family.

Rice Tire 1234Now with Facebook many others have discovered the blog and started following too.  Many of you have followed from the beginning and others found me along the way.  I am so grateful to you all for that.

Each morning the first thing I do is sit down to write a post and share a photo.  It’s become a habit that I enjoy.  Thanks for following along.  I hope you will continue visiting with me here.

Today would have been Big Mama’s birthday.  She was born in 1908 and lived through some really interesting times.  She taught me so much – cooking, sewing, crocheting and how to work hard.  She loved her family, her community and her church and her friends.  She was a beautiful person and I miss her.

wp-1485086764695.jpgwp-1485084256301.jpgI took a day off yesterday to learn how to make 2D landscapes by wet felting.  It was FUN!

I love learning something new and I have wanted to do this for some time.  I traveled to Elkton, MD to Sarafina Fiber Art for the workshop.  It’s a beautiful shop and mail order center.  She has everything you need to do needle or wet felting.  Take a look at her website.  Her work is in the photo gallery there and it’s lovely.  She also offers online tutorials to help you get started if you can’t take a workshop.  But if you have the opportunity I encourage you to learn with one of the best.  Thanks Sara for a wonderful day.

The young painters continued to come yesterday to The Studio.  This time it was the 2nd and 3rd graders from Front Royal Christian School.  They did a very good job with their paintings.  Great work!

A Dalek

dalekYesterday morning  I got a little work done for the upcoming CON-GT coming up in Tennessee in March.  We’ll be having a couple of paint parties at the convention so I need a couple of sample pieces.  Here’s the first one. It’s a little harder than what we ordinarily paint but I am betting this group can handle it.
