While in Newport recently I had an opportunity to drive around taking reference photos. This one of the Oreo cow is one of my favorites. They are actually called Belted Galloways but I think they look like Oreos. Dorothy and I painted them last week in class. You can read more about them here.

Last night at art class I had the most delightful treat. Olivia, my little 5-year-old private student that you have seen before on my blog, and her grandfather from Florida came to paint together while he was visiting. It was so much fun!!!
Olivia helped G-Pa with his painting because she is such a pro. Can you think of anything cuter than this photo! Good job Olivia and you too, G-Pa!

In our Young Painters classes each week we try to paint different subjects as well as explore different types and styles of art.
Yesterday we worked on a piece of modern art. This almost always turns out to be the favorite of the kids. Especially when we go outside and do splatter painting. They LOVE it! Olivia demonstrates here how to flick the brush. Great job girls!

Young painters this week worked on pieces to give their moms for Mother’s Day so I promised not to put them on my blog til Monday. 🙂
They do lovely work, don’t they?
And here is their birdhouses from a few weeks ago. They complete a painting every week so sometimes I get a little behind in showing them to you. But they remind me. 🙂
And the week before that it was lemons.
I just love the stunning work that they turn out. Good job young painters.
Lilies in Bloom

These elegant lilies were a paint-along that I did with one of my students a few weeks ago. I finally completed mine last night. Lilies, oil on canvas, 24″x12″, available by contacting kwalker@kellywalkerstudios.com .
Day Lilies always make me think of my mom. They were her favorites and they are Allen’s favorites so I have painted a few over the years. I love the way they look when they sprout up naturally out in the county by the road. Mama had them all around the house where we grew up. And now when I see them they always make me smile. I miss my mom.

On the last Tuesday of the month we have an art workshop at Buggy B’s in Strasburg. And this past Tuesday we worked on this painting, a glorious summer day with hay bails.
Here is Gloria and Francis getting a good start on their paintings.
And Tammy joined the mix as well painting the scene. We all worked in acrylics and it took about an hour and a half and in the end we all had a nice finished result.
We are planning our next gathering. It will be the last Tuesday in May. Just let me know if you would like to join us.
