Women of the Moose Fundraiser Success

Making Panel Quilts

I just made this panel quilt for my good friend, Carol Ann. Klimt is her favorite painter and she loves the painting, “The Kiss”, so when I saw this panel at a quilt shop last year I bought it with her in mind. Her birthday was this past month so I pulled the panel out of my stash along with some fabrics that I liked with it and whipped up this panel quilt. She loved it! 🙂 Panel quilts are a great way to make a fast quilt. We have a class coming up at The Studio on August 30th to teach you what you need to know to design your own panel quilt. Andy Griffith Mural in Mt Airy NC

We saw the Andy Griffith Mural on Moore Avenue in downtown Mount Airy when we visited earlier this week. It is created with spray paint! The mural displays four aspects of Andy’s life and career against the backdrop of Pilot Mountain. The mural, done entirely with spray paint by Greensboro artist Jeks, was completed in May 2022, in time for what would have been Andy’s 96th birthday. Our tour guide told us about watching the artist working with spray cans of paint to do it. That is pretty amazing for spray cans!

Announcing New Kid’s Classes

Announcing the new Kid’s Class Series at The Studio…We are making a few changes to the Kid’s Class Series at The Studio. We are offering weekend sessions with a variety of themes (Landscapes, Still Life, Animals, Florals) for ages 6-12. Register your young painter for one session or for all of them. Space is limited to just 10 painters per session. We will have a variety of classes for ages 6-12 for 1 1/2 hour sessions. Check out the schedule here and register your young painter for one or all of them.
They will complete a beautiful painting while learning about color mixing, composition and use of painting materials. The remaining dates in the series are listed here. Be sure to register your young painter for them soon.
Sunday, September 18 @ 2 – 3:30 pm with a Landscape

Saturday, October 8 @ 1- 2:30 pm Floral
Saturday, November 12 @ 10-11:30 am Animals
Sunday, December 11 @ 2-3:30 pm Still Life
Saturday, December 17 @ 10 am – Noon Holiday Gift Making Workshop

Poplar Forest- TJ’s Retreat

We had a couple of days away to recharge our creative juices. On the way back home we stopped at Poplar Forest, Thomas Jefferson’s Retreat. They are doing so much work there restoring the structure to the way he had it originally. It’s so amazing that they have so many documents that Jefferson wrote to tradesmen describing what he wanted. It will be even more amazing when completed. Family & Friends Paint Barn Quilts

The rain did nothing to dampen the spirits of this enthusiastic group of painters as Susie hosted a Barn Quilt Paint Party at her home in Rockland yesterday for her family and friends. It was rainy but look at the bright and beautiful colors these painters chose to paint. Terrific!!!! Nice work all around.

O’Keeffe’s Calla Lily

We wrapped up this summer’s season of Art Camp with the beautiful Georgia O’Keeffe Calla Lily. Didn’t these young painters do fabulous work???!!! Great job! Now that camp is over we will be publishing a schedule of kid’s events for the rest of the year soon. Watch for it and bring your young painters to create some more wonderful work.
