Kids LOVE painting at The Studio. They get so excited as they see their paintings come to life! And while they are having fun they are learning about color mixing, how to use brushes, and about different types of art. This week our Wednesday and Thursday classes created these gorgeous haybale landscapes. What a GREAT job they did! If you have a young painter ages 6-12 who would like to join in our Wednesday, 4:15-5:15 class or our Thursday, 11-Noon class, contact kwalker@kellywalkerstudios.com to sign them up. Come paint and join in the fun!

I am obsessed with String Quilting. I was looking for something to do with the TON of scraps I have left from multitudes of rag quilts we have made in workshops. I had boxes of scraps and have been wanting to clean out but I hate to throw away anything useful….you know what I mean. So I started looking for something that we might be able to do as a workshop at The Studio….something a step beyond the beginning rag quilts that we make. I think I found it in the “Quilt As You Go” method of String Quilts. These are so much fun to make and there are many options for designs. I love the scrappy look of these diagonal squares but you could purchase matching fabric to make a more “uniform” design. I’ll share again when it’s done but I had to lay out the squares I finished to see how it was going and I LOVE IT! Twelve squares here and I am going to do 8 more before I connect them. Can’t wait to see it!!!!

We took a little trip yesterday to pay our respects to James and Dolly Madison at Montpelier, the Madison home. It’s a short drive from Front Royal and an amazing place full of history. The foundation has done a beautiful job restoring and recovering the history of the time. “Via interpretation, research, and civic education, Montpelier engages the public with Madison’s most powerful idea: government by the people.” It’s worth a visit. (Click here to see the visit I made there 4 years ago.)
