One of the artists that we studied this week for Art Camp was Van Gogh.  And yesterday we began our “Masterpiece” painting – a 16″x20″ Starry Night painting.  It won’t be finished until after today’s class.  But earlier in the week we also talked about Van Gogh and we painted a sunflower.  Here is the first of our homage to Vincent!  Great job guys!!!

Yesterday the famous painter that we discussed was Jackson Pollack.  Then we went outside to immolate his style by painting with sticks to drip and splatter the canvas.

Of course, this was the most fun the kids have had painting so far.  Here they are with their finished paintings and at work:

I have been so impressed with the young artists I have met this summer during the weeks of Art Camp that we have been having at the Blue Ridge Arts Council.  We have been having loads of fun painting wonderful art.

Today another camp started – Famous Painters week.  We started as always with the color wheel and making all these colors just using yellow, red and blue.

Then we painted like the first famous artist we are studying this week, Monet.  And we only used those three colors -yellow, blue and red, plus white to create this entire painting.

What do you think?  Didn’t they do a fantastic job!!!???

During the Farm Tour last May I took lots of photos of Barns and Farms for the upcoming show at the Blue Ridge Arts Council.  I have painted several including this one of a horse stall barn at Butch Eastham’s farm.

There was several children there that day so excited about seeing the horses.  I decided it would be better painting with the little girl in it so I made a change.

That’s one thing about painting.  You can always change something if you decide you would like it better another way!

I call this Farm Tour at the Eastham Barn. It is an 8″x10″ acrylic on canvas.

Also, took this photo of Little Girl when I was at the Eastham Farm that day.  Couldn’t resist showing it…

Several weeks ago as I was preparing for Modern Art Camp for the kids I decided I needed to attempt a copy of a Matisse painting since that’s what we would be doing for camp.  The one on the left, Lady in a Purple Dress, is the one I did.  My Wednesday Young Artists gave it a go too.  Charlee is shown her with her beautiful version.

And this is Maggie with her excellent version.  Great job girls.  It was fun painting in a little different style and learning more about Matisse.

The final painting during Modern Art Week Camp was a study of Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup Can.

And look at the fabulous job each of these young artists did with their painting.

All ten students did beautiful work this whole week.

There are only two weeks of art camp left this summer.  The week of August 8 and the week of August 22.  Both of these weeks will explore a variety of styles from impressionism to modern.  There are only a couple of slots left in each week so sign your young artist up now.  Email me at kwalker@doubledogdesigns.com .

This is Modern Week at Art Camp and we have been doing some really fun pieces after Matisse, Warhol, & Johns.  And we’ve discussed modern art in all its various forms.

This is our version of the famous Jasper Johns painting of the American Flag.  Another terrific job guys!

Today is our final day for Modern Week and we wrap up our “Masterpiece”.  Can’t wait to show it to you.

And don’t forget, if you have a young artist, ages 7-12, there are a few spaces left in Art Camp Week 4 (Aug. 8- 12) and Week 5 (Aug. 22-26).  Email me at kwalker@doubledogdesigns.com to sign them up.
