I paint many demonstration paintings as I teach and most of the time I don’t go back and finish them up because I don’t usually have time before I am on to something else. But occasionally I will go in and tighten up one or two so that they are a little more complete. Here are a few that I did add a little more to recently. You can see the original posts for these paintings here: Still Life, Sailboat Landscape, and Tulips.

Each year there is a big Trade Show & Workshop held in Raleigh NC called Art of the Carolinas. I’ve attended several times but haven’t been able to make it in a few years…until now. I came this year with two friends and we are enjoying the workshops. Yesterday I went to Kimberlee Maselli‘s Expressive Floral with Palette Knife class. She’s a great instructor helping each of us to learn to use a variety of knives to get shapes and designs to make a lovely floral painting.
We first worked on paper with a few different shapes and then she turned us loose on a canvas panel. She had fresh flowers available for inspiration. I chose the tulips. It was a fun and different way for me to work. Can’t wait till the next workshop. More from Raleigh tomorrow.

We made a trip to the Tulip Farm yesterday to pick a few but mostly to take photos for painting reference. A beautiful day. Burnside Farms is right outside of Haymarket.

We have had some really great paintings at Paint Parties this weekend. We had Mary’s Birthday Party with a terrific beach scene. We had our second group paint the “Tulips with a View”. And last Thursday we even painted some wonderful wine glasses. Nothing but a good time to be had at The Studio.
Check out the calendar and find a fun party or class to attend.
Tulips with a View

This is the painting that we will be doing next month for the 1st Saturday Paint Party (and probably again later in the month because the first party looks like it will sell out). I love putting our beautiful mountain view into paintings that we do. We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful place. It makes for really nice art!
Plus this one will help us welcome in the spring after such a cold winter.
