It’s the quiet before the storm….storm of sewing, that is! The Quilter’s Retreat started yesterday afternoon and while I didn’t get here till early evening I tried to catch up by sewing until 11 pm. And now, as usual, I am the first one up. I just can’t seen to sleep past 5 am. It’s kind of nice in the quiet minutes before all the machines fire up. I can’t wait to see what everyone is doing! Fabulous group of stitchers went all in for 3 days of sewing, quilting and crocheting at the Shenandoah River State Park this past weekend. We had SO MUCH FUN!!!! We did a lot of laughing while creating so pretty fabulous things. Take a look. We can’t wait to do it all again! Thanks ladies for so much inspiration.

It’s time to plan your trip to Capon Springs Resort and Farm. We’ll be having two paint parties…one on Friday night and one on Sunday night. This is our 6th collaboration between Capon Springs and The Studio as we hold a Spring Artist Retreat from Friday, June 5th thru Tuesday, June 9th. You can come anytime from Friday through Tuesday and stay for one night or all four. The best part of coming is that the $125 per person per night includes 3 meals per day (homemade all you can eat comfort food, some from the farm), art instruction and all other resort activities (except for golf and spa services). You can bring your own art supplies and improve your skills as you paint along…or if you don’t have art supplies and you want to give it a try, we will have supplies available for a small supply fee* for the things you want to try. We just spent three days and two night at the beautiful Shenandoah River State Park in Warren County, Virginia for a Stitch and Bitch Retreat. We all brought projects that we were working on and stitched and chatted and ate and drank and hiked and laughed and even learned to play Mahjong! What a terrific time. It is so much fun being with women with like hobbies who are willing to cut loose and share in a good time. AWESOME!
We will be holding another one soon so watch for dates and since space is very limited go ahead and start thinking about how much fun you will have now so that when the dates are posted you can jump right in. 🙂

We arrived yesterday afternoon at Capon Springs Resort and Farm for an artist Retreat that will run through Thursday. Last night we had a Paint Party that was open to everyone…even if you had never painted before. And I think we may have some converts!
I love it when people paint for the first time and find that they can really do it! What fun…and we had some really nice paintings come out of this group. Today we are setting up for our first session which is and Introduction to Painting. While we have some people coming to the Retreat that have painted for years, we have many who are new to art. There will be something for everyone.
And look…I’m the “Artist in Residence”. Cool, huh??!! It’s not too late. If you are close enough and are interested you can join us. Just contact Capon Springs for room availability. It’s just $99 per night and includes 3 meals and all art instruction. Bring your own supplies or use ours for a small supply fee. You won’t regret it. This place is AWESOME! Did I mention the spa and mineral springs??!!

The very first Paint Party ever at Capon Springs was a HUGE success! The painters were terrific and did a fabulous job creating a beautiful work of art featuring the Band Stand at the Resort.
Capon Springs is an all inclusive family mountain resort …. and while it is only about 32 miles from Front Royal it seems a really long way away. It’s like going back in time. I told my friend who went last night to help with the Paint Party that it is “32 miles and 6 decades away”! It’s wonderful. You can learn more about it here. We had a grand time enjoying dinner there before the Paint Party. It was delightful to see all these multi-generational families sitting together passes plates and bowls of food around the table and having conversations while dining. I am thrilled that Jonathan, one of the owners of this gem, has invited me to come back and teach again.
I’ll be back for another Paint Party and we will also be offering a multi disciplined Art Week in the Fall. Stay tuned for more info soon. You will definitely want to plan to go for a few days.
